I have no idea how to write this without making this about me, but here it goes... I find it hard to understand how someone could take another human's life, especially someone they once loved. How could a person destroy the life of their wife, the mother of their children, while those children are at home, expecting to see their mom again soon? That moment, when their world was forever changed—when the promise of a mother’s return was taken from them—will never leave my mind. The loss of their grandpa as well, adds to the enormity of this grief. I keep thinking about them.

A Great Life
You keep telling yourself, “This is the year.” Every. Single. New Year. You set the same goals—losing 20 pounds, affording a house, acing your courses. These are all things we want to achieve, but by March, they’re forgotten, left on the back burner, slowly growing cold or even burning out completely. I know I’ve been there too.

No Sleepovers
I gripped the party invitation in my hand. I was so excited to be invited over for a slumber party. I had to figure out a way to get my parents to say yes to this. I knew that they would say no. Then, I had the perfect plan I would get my homework done, I would practice my vocabulary, I would read the book I was dreading reading and then I would ask. They couldn’t say no then, could they? So I rushed home and did all that, exactly that and I would avoid showing them my latest failing grade until after. It was all planned. I came into the kitchen and offered to do the dishes. My mom had just finished up, so no dishes for me to do.

Equality is a Lie
Does anyone really know what equality means or are we just running around saying this word with no meaning to it? The dictionary definition of equality: “the state of being equal, especially in status, rights, and opportunities.” Equality among men and women will never exist, we should all accept that and move on. You don’t believe me? That’s okay.

I Had No Idea
As a parent, you want to preserve your child's innocence and keep the light in their eyes for as long as you can. I was not allowed to work until I was 18 because school was a priority even if I was passing idly by with C's and some B's. My parents gave us the best life we could have; we grew up in a small house with one bathroom shared amongst five people, I shared a bedroom with my older sister up until my oldest sister got married and moved out. My parents shielded us from the fact that we had little to no money this was mostly due to the fact that my parents were immigrants from a communist country.

Why Canadians are Moving?
Seeing that red and white maple leaf flag always made me feel proud as a child. I used to mock Americans for their lack of geography knowledge, for not knowing who our Prime Minister is, and for assuming that we all live in igloos and have pet penguins in our bathtubs. The truth is, most people who don’t ski don’t enjoy winter. The rest of us simply wait for summer to arrive so we can break out the kayak and go fishing. I never liked winter because I didn’t enjoy the winter activities. I hated cross-country skiing, and I can’t skate on ice because I’m afraid of falling and not being able to breathe. Yet, here I am, living where the air literally hurts my face. I scrape the frost off my car every morning while repeating to myself, "We don’t have hurricanes, we don’t have alligators, and we don’t have earthquakes," over and over until the window is clear.

Choose your Partner
Before marriage, before starting a relationship there is much to think about. You need to decide what to look for in a partner, you need to decide which flags are red, which are green, and which are yellow because this is the person that you will be with. This is the partner that you will have all your adventures with, the partner that you will have a "ship" with, and that ship can sail many seas, either high or low tide, either through a storm or the calm. You want them to navigate and explore other islands with you, these islands might be mysterious, might be treacherous, but you need to know you can get through it all together. Don't forget about the mist that may rise and fall. I am so glad I have the partner that I have. We were both very open on what we wanted right from the beginning of the relationship. I chose the job I have for reasons that I get really good benefits; I have a retirement plan; I have flexibility from going part-time to casual to full-time all to plan for having future children. My husband was looking for someone that would be willing to raise children and be an at home mom, while he goes to work to make money for the family.

The fall's harvest fairies go to sleep and with a large yawn, they enter a slumber. Then, with a wrinkle of a nose, a twinkle of a toe and the whirring of a blue wing the frost fairy awakens, she was asleep for much longer than the last fall.

Do you have 5-8 hours?Because that’s how long it can take to be admitted to an emergency room in Canada. I've been to my fair share of emergency rooms, and the longest wait time I’ve experienced was 14 hours. The shortest was 4 hours, just to see someone about the pain I was in.

”There are no alligators, no hurricanes, no giant spiders. There are no alligators, no hurricanes, no giant spiders,” Lindsay repeated to herself as she shoveled the heavy snow off the walk way. “It’s worth it, my face hurts but it’s so worth it,” she said a loud to no one as she tried to convince herself this weather was not that bad. She hurried over to the porch and left the shovel there and quickly got inside. Her glasses fogged up, she felt around for the door knob and locked it behind her. Lindsay would not have to go out there for a while now. Her face felt stiff and cold as she took off her coat and boots, she unraveled her scarf and dropped everything on the floor. She finally removed her glasses and wiped them from the fog that covered her glasses to see her daughter Ivy on the kitchen floor playing with their miniature daschund named Shoe. She could not believe how much her daughter had grown, Ivy was now ten years old. Lindsay still couldn’t believe she raised her daughter on her own when she was fifteen. Now, Lindsay was running her own travel agency and it was going well. She never thought it would be possible, but here she was affording her own home sending her child to one of the best private schools in the state.

Not Meant For Manager
At a young age we are told “you can be whatever you want to be”. To an extent that is true you can hard work and get to where you want to by dedication, sleepless nights, and never giving up. However, some things are not meant to be. When you first meet someone the first question usually is “What do you do for work?” Because that actually tells you a lot about their personality right from the get-go. An example, is you are out on a date and you’re talking to someone who is quite chatty and you ask “what do you do?” They answer with “oh I’m in sales” and suddenly it all clicks. An out going person is in sales, of course.
