Home Run
The sound of a home run is distinct. No sound like it, not even when the sound comes from the field of a little league game. A sharp noise as the ball connects, a solid clunk from the discarded bat, cheering from the stands, and the pounding of cleats hitting dirt. As the batter rounds bases the cheers get louder, the realization when the ball leaves the park.

Her heart pounds. Stray branches whip into her arms as she runs past them. Tripping down the uneven path, her breath comes out ragged. Panic flutters under her ribs as the forest around her darkens.

The kingdom buzzes. Streamers, wreaths, and a ridiculous amalgamation of hand made signs crowd the waterways. Tails gleam and everyone, maids and men alike, have crafted elaborate hair styles in the hopes of getting even just a moment of attention from the soon-to-be arriving star.
