Tower House And Avenham Tower
An Architectural Work Of Art

Introduction
This was originally intended to be an architectural drabble, and since I saw this on my first visit to Preston for ages last year, and my first visit to Avanham in fifty years, it has fascinated me.
I suppose this post is historical, but to me, this building is a work of art.
Tower House And Avenham Tower
It is now three flats, but still a mightily impressive building, overlooking the beautiful Avenham Park and the river Ribble.
The site below tells a lot about it with some photographs of the outside.
Avenham Tower, was built by the Threlfall family in 1847. It later became the home of Edwin Booth, founder of the local grocery concern.
I presume that the Threlfall family was that of Richard Threlfall, who was the Mayor of Preston in 1855-56. Richard Threlfall was a small landholder and wine merchant who was originally from Hollowforth, north of Preston. However, I haven't found anything to support this conclusively.
Edwin Booth, the founder of the Lancashire chain of grocers.
On 14th January 1899, the Preston Guardian reported the death, at the age of 70, of Edwin Henry Booth, the founder of the chain of Lancashire supermarkets. He died at his home, Avenham Tower.
Booths is one of my favourite supermarkets and until this moment I did not know that he lived in this impressive house.
The building is a Grade II listed Tower House. The white Italianate style house that overlooks Avenham Park.
Avenham and Miller Parks are located in the heart of Preston’s city centre and provide a peaceful retreat away from busy life.
Conclusion
I will be back here later this month, and now that I know a little more about it will probably take a few more photographs.
Thank you so much for reading.

Beautiful song & impressive edifice. I'd hate to have to be the one to keep it clean.
Such a lovely house, I wouldn't mind living in one similar to it. <3
Reminds me of a house at Fort Canning here in Singapore. Beautiful architecture.
That's such a cool looking house. It feels really familiar like I've seen it in a horror movie or something.
