Kirby Yugioh Deck

A custom Yugioh deck based on a gaming character

By The Kind QuillPublished about a year ago 6 min read

Dearest Reader, in a far away land lies a pink puff ball. This creature is able to absorb other creatures and copy its abilities. Depending on the creature, determines its abilities. This fun loving being is called Kirby. I blended the yugioh world with the world of Kirby together into a playable custom deck.

Disclaimer: most images of the cards are not my own. They belong to the creators they belong to or were created by using various ai softwares. With the images being repeated through various platforms, it’s difficult to specify who orchestrated them so it’s best to state it’s not mine.

Kirby of Dreamland is our main card of the deck and the one you want to start the game with. This card not only gets you the resources but also connects with our character too. The main source of the deck is to highlight Kirby and its abilities. By using monsters on either field to become a different version of itself is represented by Kirby’s ability to absorb enemies and allies to copy abilities and become something else for a time until hurt or destroyed.

Similar to the yugioh card Super Polymerization, that has the effect to use monsters on the field to conduct fusion without response, it has been further inspiration for this cards deck. Something to also note, all the monsters in this deck will have the same effect as Kirby which is to be able to attack directly. This is to reference Kirby’s ability to float around obstacles and recover from fall.

Next up in monsters is our friend Sword Kirby. When Kirby of Dreamland uses another monster on the field to “absorb” depending on the attribute determines what form of Kirby to get. Sword Kirby is the earth attribute. This is one of Kirby’s main characters when he absorbs a swordsman.

Much like the main Kirby, this card attacks directly. Once thing this card and the other Kirby variants will have is the ability to shuffle itself into the deck to draw 1 card, and a quick effect to do something by discarding itself. Sword Kirby will protect your monsters from being destroyed by battle.

The next monster in the deck is Fire Kirby. If you used a fire attribute monster with Kirby of Dreamland effect, you can summon this card. This card allows the same drawing effect and the ability to attack directly. Fire Kirby is able to discard itself to protect your Kirby monsters from trap effects. It also has a unique ability to burn your opponent for 500. This is to commemorate its ability to shoot fire.

If you used a Water Attribute using Kirby of Dreamland effect, you can summon Ice Kirby. You can discard this card to protect your Kirby monsters from spell card effects. This is to cater to Kirby’s ice powers on spells. Its unique effect is to freeze anything it touches. Most likely negating the opponent’s card effects that try to touch this card

Tornado Kirby allows you to protect your Kirby monsters from monster effects by discarding him. Furthermore, similar to the “master of beasts” card, you can return this card and a card on the board to your hand. This is to represent the wind powers of this Kirby.

Master Kirby is the monster with the star rod or the master sword from dreamland. This card allows you to summon a kirby monster when he's destroyed or discarded. This card is special for card removal which represents the attack of from the star rod.

Shadow Kirby closes off our monsters. Shadow kirby was first introduced in Kirby & The Amazing Mirror. Also known as a mini boss, Kirby of dreamland absorbing a dark attribute monster will allow you to summon this card. The effects allow you to weaken your opponent's stats while also allowing you to draw an extra card.

Kirby's Dreamland is a field spell that allows you to get your main kirby. Dreamland is the main location where kirby lives so it needed to be a field spell. This card has self protection and it also allows you to summon your Kirby monsters from the hand so you can continue your plays. With no extra deck, I wanted to add a benefit to having no extra deck cards which will slow down the opponent.

Kirby's Warp Star is a card that you can equip to a monster. Similar to Kirby's natural effect to attack directly, this card gives the equipped monster the ability to do just that. So if you have any other monster the chance to ride a warp star, this would be your chance. Just got to destroy a kirby monster to do so which triggers the Kirby monster effects.

Kirby Kirby is a continuous spell that allows you to summon a kirby monster while also, giving you some recovery for your spells and traps. Though, kirby monsters has a lot of recycling, the spells and traps do not share the same benefits. Thus, having this card out allows you to recycle them just by paying the cost.

Our last spell card of the deck is Poyo Poyo which can be used during either players turn when face down in the spell zone or from the hand during your turn. With all of the many kirby colors and attributes, The inspiration for this card was to reference Kuriboh.

The idea of the many types of kuriboh out there but mainly contains at least 2 attributes, I wanted to give flavor in this card by giving some power to the monsters themselves. Whether it's increasing stats or getting more life points for each one you control. This card is what you want to use shake things up.

Starting out the traps we have Double Sided Kirby. This card is pretty simple and straight forward. Mainly because we have two different kirby monsters. One from the first games and the current ones. By blending them together I wanted this card to simply summon our main kirby of the deck so you can start your plays since Kirby of Dreamland is the main card of the deck.

Conquering the Nightmare is a reference to Kirby & the Amazing Mirror game. It depicts the battle between kirby and the bad guy nightmare. The effect of this card is to stop your opponent from using too many resources. It also allows you to summon more kirby monsters just like in the games where you can play up to 4 players with different colors and abilities.

Air Ride to Green Greens is a play on words that reference two things, the Kirby's Air Ride game and Green greens, one of the iconic levels kirby goes through his journey to victory. The effect allows you to summon another kirby monster by shuffling one from your field into the deck. This gives you more monsters but doesn't flood your field with too many. This also give your the warp star because of the games this card references.

Closing out the trap cards and the deck, we have Master Slash. Remember how we have master kirby with the star rod, this trap card is the move kirby uses during his final fights and uses the master sword to achieve victory. With a swing of his sword, kirby can destroy all monsters in its path and strengthen your monster and even destroying a card in its path as well.

This deck was so much fun to make. The Kirby series had so many fun projects that I enjoyed playing and being able to blend this and yugioh together is amazing. If there's any other animated franchise like kirby that you may want to potentially be translated in a yugioh style custom deck, feel free to comment and maybe you will see it in the next custom deck analysis.
