Generations of Faith

The Christening Gown Story

By Gaille HunterPublished about a year ago 1 min read
A Lumen5 Video Production of My Original Reflection

The most beautiful dress I ever wore was my Christening gown.

A picture from that day is prevalent throughout my family photo albums,

representing four generations of Christian women.

I enjoyed going to three different churches throughout the month.

My paternal grandmother’s small, cozy church,

my aunt’s church where I saw my cousins,

and our family church, just a five-minute walk past a candy store.

I was baptized at the age of nine during Easter Sunrise Service.

I promised God to always be a good person.

Recently, my twin grandchildren were baptized, which was very emotional for me.

Once, overwhelmed by community problems, I distributed Bibles around my city.

I also taught at a Christian college for two years,

enjoying the spiritual assignments and class discussions.

I write, sing, and play Christian songs on my guitar, which soothes my soul.

I pray on my knees, often just saying, "Thank you, Lord."

I hope I have fulfilled my purpose as a good mother and teacher.
