Cyclonic tempest 'Midhili' has commenced crossing the Mongla-Payra coast,

according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Division (BMD). The outskirts of the typhoon are currently crossing near Khepupara. It is expected to continue moving in a north-northeastward direction and complete its crossing by tonight.
At 12:00pm, the typhoon was positioned approximately 310 km west-southwest of Chattogram port, 310 km west-southwest of Cox's Bazar port, 145 km south-southwest of Mongla port, and 150 km southwest of Payra port.
Within a radius of 54 km from the typhoon's center, the maximum sustained wind speed is around 62 kmph, with gusts or blasts reaching up to 88 kmph. The sea conditions remain very rough in the vicinity of the typhoon, as stated by the BMD.
The sea ports of Payra and Mongla have been advised to maintain a high danger signal of level seven until further notice. Similarly, the maritime ports of Cox's Bazar and Chattogram have been instructed to maintain a high danger signal of level six.
Under the peripheral influence of the cyclonic tempest, heavy rainfall (44-88 mm) to extremely heavy rainfall (≥89mm) accompanied by strong and gusty winds persists over the northern bay, offshore islands, estuaries, and coastal areas of Bangladesh.
According to the BMD, the low-lying areas in the coastal regions of Cox's Bazar, Chattogram, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Barguna, Bhola, Patuakhali, Bagherhat, Khulna, Satkhira, as well as their offshore islands and estuaries, are likely to be inundated by a wind-driven flood of 3-5 feet above the normal astronomical tide due to the peripheral effect of the typhoon and steep pressure gradient.
As a result of the typhoon, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Sylhet divisions are expected to experience heavy rainfall (44-88 mm) to extremely heavy rainfall (289 mm).
According to the BMD statement, landslides may occur in the hilly regions of Chattogram Division.
In the meantime, all fishing boats and trawlers operating in the North Cove and open sea areas have been advised to seek shelter until further notice.
Furthermore, the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has suspended the operation of all river vessels on both inland and coastal routes from 10:00 am today due to the cyclonic tempest.
This order will remain in effect until further notice, said Ehtesamul Parvez.
