My Friend Cherri's Amazing Macramé Creations

Cherri Created The Lampshade In Macramé For This Lamp From Her Dad

Introduction

My friend Cherri has many talents but has recently been sharing some of her amazing macramé creations on Facebook and I thought they would be a great addition to the Vocal Art community.

She does sell her creations and a lot of people have her creations in their houses, so if you want anything you see contact her on Facebook.

The music is "Life Is Life" by Noah and the Whale and brilliant song about progress, I love the way Cherri's art is developing, so the song, I feel, is appropriate.

These are her photos on Facebook which feature her creations, her lovely daughter Autumn, and her Cats as well, and these are two poems that were inspired by her work.

So What Is Macramé?

It's probably my ignorance but to me, it is creating structures and things from thread with needles. This is real art. I always say that writing is the easiest art form because even when you have a complete work, in this digital age, you can go back and change or amend the work.

Macramé is something where any change would involve a great deal of work. To create something you need talent, dedication, ideas, inspiration and a lot of hard work.

The Wiki definition is:

Macramé is a form of textile produced using knotting (rather than weaving or knitting) techniques.

So you can see that I got it wrong with my definition.

What Cherri Does In The World Of Macramé

Scratchy And Lamp

This is Cherri's latest piece and is the picture I used for the front piece of this article. This is her cat Scratchy with the lamp. This is Cherri's story about the lampshade and the lamp:

My dad gave me this owl lamp when we moved back to Wyoming. I loved the base but HATED the lampshade. It was this burlap fabric that would have been okay but my dad smoked inside and it was covered in nicotine and cat hair 🤢 I kept it thinking the ultimate crafter lie…I WILL DO SOMETHING WITH IT LATER…and apparently, today was that day because damn this looks cool af!

I gotta agree with Cherri it does look cool as hell (though that is a rubbish analogy isn't it) but you know what I mean.

A Macramé Bat

As we move towards All Hallows Eve, Cherri and Autumn are great Halloween fans, and look at this beautiful Macramé Bat that Cherri created. Couldn't you find a place for this gorgeous creation.

Boo!!

I am not sure whether this is supposed to be anything but it is beautiful and makes me think of a dreamcatcher, but Cherri's cat Boo likes it as well. A definite lovely piece of art.

Tree Of Life

An absolutely gorgeous "Tree Of Life" in green and color. I loved this when I saw it and Cherri shared it with us. This is a beautiful statement that she said about its development, a wonderful way to remember her dad:

I made this and took it apart and remade it at least 5 times until it fit what I was looking to make. I have to say the end result is something that I am really proud of. Wooden beads came from my dad's massive bead stash. I love that I am able to use the things he had wanted to make art with but never had the chance to. A part of him will live forever in the things I will make with them. It’s fitting that the first thing is a tree of life.

Black and White

I will leave you with this beautiful black-and-white creation. I love looking at this and letting my imagination get lost in its twirls and threads. Like all of Cherri's work it is a wonderful work of art.

I love macramé, it’s very “boho” like La Rosa. 😉 What you said is true, although writing is not easy. It’s just that something like this takes more patience and dedication to develop the skills for. Cherri has that in spades, along with talent! That Tree of Life is stunning, and the incorporation of her dad’s beads makes it so special. Great song choice too. 🎶🩷

  • From Cherri Stringham: Thank you!! I wasn’t able to reply to the comments in the article but thank them for the love of my art. And thank you for always supporting me and loving me no matter what I’m doing. You’re a true friend and a beautiful soul.
