A PORTRAIT OF THREE LOVE

CHAINED HEARTS AND SHADOWS

By vera odumgbaPublished about a year ago 1 min read

I am in love with my prisoner,

Chained to a heartbeat that won't set me free,

Bound by the weight of familiar sorrow,

Held captive by memories only I can see.

I am in love with the toxic ex,

A bruised passion that still stings sweet,

Drunk on the ache, sipping bitter regrets,

Lured back to the wounds I swore I'd defeat.

I am in love with imagined love,

A dream that glows in borrowed light,

A soft illusion I cling to at night,

Where everything’s perfect, and nothing’s right.

Each love a shadow, a ghost, a tether,

Yet here I remain, lost in forever.
