Why Writers Should Choose The Vocal Platform

Some Positives From Being A Vocal Member

By Mike Singleton 💜 Mikeydred Published about a year ago • Updated about a year ago • 3 min read

Introduction

I wanted to write something pointing out all the positives I see for writers being on, or joining the Vocal platform. It has changed significantly since it tempted me with promises of huge financial prizes for its challenges. The value of the prizes has dropped but they are far more frequent, and you have to think, why are you actually here?

You won't make a living writing on Vocal, but you will gain so many treasures which is what this post is about.

The music is "Higher Ground" by Stevie Wonder because in one way or another, as writers, that is what we aim for.

Why Writers Should Choose The Vocal Platform

Vocal allows you to write and categorise your work very quickly, and though it may not get very long on the front page, it is there for you to share and then get others to read it. This is where Facebook Groups come in to build your audience.

Sometimes you may write for therapy, or you may wish to write a book or an article about a subject you like. The Vocal Communities allow you to categorise your work, although Poets and Fiction are the biggest areas.

Vocal is an open platform and anyone can read your stories. As a free member, you get paid 0.3c a read, but as a Vocal+ member, you double that. Since I joined Vocal my reads have always outstripped my subscription payments apart from the first few months.

I see many writers and poets who share their work for free on Facebook and Instagram and try and encourage them to come to Vocal. In my three years on Vocal I have persuaded over fifty new members to join the platform, which you can find out about here:

Vocal also award bonuses for Top Stories and instances on the Leaderboard which swell the wallet, and as a plus member, you can withdraw when your balance is $20 as opposed to $35 for the free membership.

Comments allow users to let you know what they think of your work and this can help us all develop as writers.

I've said before that I think the biggest treasure that I have found is the friendship, support and encouragement that I have got since I joined Vocal. Without that, I do not think that I could have become a good writer and poet.

I have been given constructive criticism, love, encouragement and all that has made me a better writer.

Not many writers make a living from their writing, but all are passionate about their work and Vocal gives you a great platform to share your work and try out your ideas. I have tried others and not measure up to Vocal.

If you are not a Vocal member please join us in the Vocal Social Society and see what the writers produce and how we encourage and nurture each other's work, and if you find something you like then come and share your work with us on the Vocal Platform.

You can check out Vocal Challenges here:

And copious resources here:

I know people push Medium, Patreon, Substack and more, but I feel that Vocal gives me everything I need in a single package, and therefore I have no need for any other writing platform.

Conclusion

Thank you for reading. If you are a Vocal Creator then you probably know what I am talking about, if you are not then hopefully you will investigate further.

Thanks to Vocal I have six anthologies self-published on Amazon:

I will leave you with my poem about the Vocal Groups that help me every day:

Great optimistic article Mike. I tried Substack.com but could no one to subscribe that I knew, and I am on medium.com but no one seems to read my writing there. They view but that's it.

I like the challenges, both official and unofficial. They get my brain going. Thanks to you for that as well, Mike!

Thanks Mike for all that you do for Vocal and your friends on Vocal.😉

  • I appreciate this positive outlook, especially when I have not had a T.S. in a good while. The structure here is a vehicle for my musings and the social community are why I stay. I wonder when it's time to renew our Vocal+ memberships?

  • Yes, I too feel Vocal gives me everything that I need hehehe
