Unofficial Slice of Life Challenge + Winners!
A Challenge hosted by me
I am so inspired by all the challenge entries, both official and not. I want to spread the love and host my own.
I love Slice of Life type stories full of dialogue and small character details. No monsters needed, no twists trying to out-do each other, just a little glimpse into someone else’s world.
Criteria
Your story can be in any setting but cannot end in a cliffhangar or have any major plot twists. Focus on dialogue and small details. No AI-generated content please, this is to celebrate the creativity of the human mind.
Please keep your story between 500-1200 words.
Once your story is published please comment on this post and link it so I can find it. I will reply to the comment to acknowledge the entry. If I miss yours, please comment again after a couple days.
You can link stories that are already published if they fit the criteria.
Deadline
I will be accepting entries until March 13th and I will choose the winners on March 20th.
Prizes
I will be tipping out my three favorite stories and linking them in this post and Facebook posts in various Vocal groups.
1st Place; $15
2nd Place; $10
3rd Place; $5
I'm so excited to see what all you lovely and creative people come up with!
Winners!
Thank you to all who entered, I loved the submissions. I will be tipping out after I publish this.
1st Place: Ink, Water, and a Little Bit of Bravery
I loved this little glimpse into one simple decision on a seemingly ordinary day. The descriptions and the care that went into the dialogue drew me in immediately.
2nd Place: Missing Mom
This gritty take on the challenge is full of super sensory moments. The inner dialogue of the main character is odd yet relatable and very unique.
3rd Place: Interludes in Old George Yard
I loved the musical accompaniment, it really sets the vibe for this look into a vinyl-lovers day. The story is layered with more content and very enjoyable.
I hope you all check out these awesome Slice-of-Life stories!

To the winners: My bank has flagged Vocal as fraud. Ugh. I'm working on getting you guys your tips but it may take a moment!
Thank you so very much!
Thank you for this, I am genuinely delighted, as gentle, dialogue driven stories are not my strong point!

Think this sounds like a really interesting challenge. Great stuff.
My stories are mostly dialogue driven so I don't think that would be a problem. But, my stories always end in a cliffhanger and have major plot twists, lol. I'll see if Mr Brain is willing to come up with something for this 😅😅
