Russian nuclear submarines conduct exercises attacking enemy warships. The Russian nuclear submarines Orel and Severodvinsk fired a series of missiles, practicing attacks on enemy amphibious ships in the Barents Sea. "The Severodvinsk nuclear submarine, part of Project 885, and Orel, part of Project 949A, practiced missile launches at targets in the Barents Sea. The exercise is part of the training plan for the Northern Fleet," the Russian Ministry of Defense announced today. The Russian Navy said the exercise simulated an assumed enemy amphibious group. Two Russian submarines launched Kalibr and P700 Granit cruise missiles, hitting the target from a distance of 170 km. "The results of the exercise confirmed the technical capabilities and high reliability of the missiles," a statement from the Russian Ministry of Defense read. Severodvinsk is the only submarine of Project 885, also known as the Yasen class, manufactured by Russia before producing the Project 855M submarines (Yasen-M).
