Lil Pumpkin Nightmares [an unofficial challenge]

HELLOO EVERYONE! Welcome to ANOTHER unofficial challenge this month!

Because Halloween is right around the corner, I wanted to make a spooky challenge, but this one will be short and quick!

Let's get into it!

The Prompt

Write a micro-fiction horror story that takes place on Halloween night, featuring a jack-o-lantern!

Some necessary guidelines:

• It MUST happen on Halloween night!
• It MUST feature a JACK-O-LANTERN at some point in your story! Whether it is the spooky monster, or if it's just a little detail!
• It MUST be a MICRO! Make sure to keep your stories UNDER 500 WORDS!
• It MUST be in the HORROR fiction!
• IMPORTANT: This one must be NEW!

The Criteria

Word Count: Anywhere between 0 and 500 words! Please keep it short! The purpose of this challenge is to write a MICRO!

Link back: Not a requirement, but a nice touch! Please embed a link in your entry to this challenge, or make it clear that you've written it as an entry to this challenge.

FAQ

Can I make more than one submission? Yes! Go for it! But only one of your entries can feature in the Top 3!

Can I submit a story I have already written? USUALLY I SAY YES, BUT FOR THIS ONE I SAY NO. It must be completely new!

Important Dates

This is gonna be a speedy one!

Deadline: This challenge will close on November 5th at 11:59 pm MST (five days after Halloween)! Usually I would keep it open for a whole month, but this one is gonna be super short! So get those entries in FAST!

Results: The results will be posted on (or around) November 12th, a week after the challenge deadline!

UPDATE!: Due to unforeseen circumstances, my presence on Vocal has been greatly diminished. I am currently going through the entries and will be posting the results asap.

• The post will include the Top 3 entries with blurbs rationalizing my choices!
• Prizes? Currently my prizes are community-based, not monetary. The prize goes to the 1st place winner, in which I will read, like, and comment on five of the winner's works that I have not yet read, as well as subscribe if I have not already!
