Rupi Kaur’s Relationship Writing Prompts — I used to be opposed to _____________, but I learned from my partner that__________________.

My thoughts: What is wrong with having a favorite? I spent more time with this child. He was my first grandchild. They always seemed to spend the most time with their grandparents.

What I saw growing up was firstborns being favored by grandparents. Most often the oldest children appeared to be the hero in the family, as well.

Then I learned from my partner: My husband says that having a favorite tells the others there may be something wrong with them and it wrecks the one you favor by doing for them what they should be doing for themself.

Rupi Kaur’s Relationship Writing Prompts — What is one piece of advice you would give someone about friendship?

To care for as you would want to be cared for

to love with the kind you wish for from a friend you adore

to trust until trust is broken, then try to fix it

remembering that in friendship, we are not perfect, not one bit.

Rupi Kaur’s Relationship Writing Prompts — How did your family influence your definition of love?

Music of love

Touch my dove

Smiles and care

anger was rare

Loving our babies

and all the grandbabies

cuddles for baby and friends

and making amends

Loving and caring for siblings

and the love it brings

without any shillings

without any billings

Family outings to the beach

all the yummy food to reach

for and learn to teach

especially things made with peach

Peach cobbler, peach pie

showing love until I die

my mother's favorite way

to say I love you most every day

but especially on a Sunday

Wonderful advice, Denise. Lovely poems <3

  • this one really struck me in the chest. I am an only child and was always looked at as an outcast in the family.

  • This one hit home. The sense of being overshadowed is quite difficult to bear!
