D Winners- The A-Z of Unusual Words
The continuing yearlong $2 challenge
Thanks to all who entered the part D challenge of this yearlong series.
For this fourth installment, there were nine entries. As always, I highly recommend that anyone reading this check out the excellent work from all of these talented authors.
In alphabetical order:
Defenestration, by Angie the Archivist: A great word (one I almost chose) and a highly entertaining piece that was inspired by it.
Depayse, by Katarzyna Popiel: A thoughtful look at those who brave the journey to another continent and into another culture.
Depeditation, by Rachel Deeming: A very punny poem with a very clever word.
Derailleur, by Mike Singleton: A creative take on vintage bicycle technology woven with music history.
Dervish, by Laura Pruett: A lovely history of a cultural descriptor and the poem it inspires.
Desideratum, by Dana Crandell: A well-crafted poem based on a word with a fascinating history.
Diabetes, by LisaJ: A detailed look at a common but misunderstood condition.
Diacope, by Paul Stewart: A very fun piece inspired by a metaphorical term for a literary device.
Dilettante, by DK Shepard: A charming, relatable piece about a relationship with the arts (and a top story)!
I appreciate all of the people who have diligently submitted entries for each letter. You all inspire me.
As this is coming late, I will be brief- I am also late in switching the letter from E to F, this will come in a minute.
For best word, Paul Stewart's Diacope taught me something new. I absolutely love technical terms that are also metaphors, and this is a perfect example of that.
For best poem/microfiction, the actions in Dervish, by Laura Pruett caught my attention. It offered a nice pairing of action and philosophy and worked well with her theme.
Thanks to all who submitted, and I look forward to reading your entries for the letter E!
