Surrounded by the tranquil environment, we center ourselves and release any lingering stress. After enjoying a refreshing coffee and breakfast, we prepare for our visit to Pundaquit Falls, located in the Barangay. Though the falls aren’t particularly high or dramatic, the cool, crisp water is invigorating. We enjoy watching a few local visitors diving in and swimming, and naturally, we join in the fun. The experience is both refreshing and serene, with the opportunity to explore the top of the falls as well. We are fortunate to be guided by the daughter of the caretaker of our accommodation, who shares local insights as we take in the beauty of the area.
Late Morning:
Set out for a Journey to Nagsasa Cove
Our adventure began as we boarded a large boat, filled with excitement as we set sail to the secluded Nagsasa Cove, a gem known for its untouched beauty and breathtaking landscapes. Though the journey was expected to take about two hours, the wonders around us made time feel like it was flying. As we navigated through the sparkling waters, the stunning views of the Virgin Mountains, the vast sky, and the majestic rock formations inspired awe within us. The boat, strong and sturdy, carried all seven of us comfortably, and the calm waves ensured a smooth and exhilarating ride.
As we journeyed, we were blessed with countless opportunities to connect with nature, witnessing the beauty of local wildlife and breathing in the fresh, invigorating air. The thrill of nearing our destination energized us, and soon we found ourselves approaching the cove. After we docked, our boat guide informed us that they would return to pick us up after 1 p.m. This revelation caught us off guard. We had initially believed the boat was exclusively reserved for our group, but in that moment, we realized the adventure was meant to be shared. To our surprise, we discovered there was an entrance fee for Nagsasa Cove, applicable when we made a purchase at the small store. This raised questions: if we chose not to buy anything, would the fee still apply? Would they be able to monitor us? Though it was puzzling, our enthusiasm for exploring the breathtaking beauty of Nagsasa Cove could not be dimmed.
Despite the unexpected details, we immersed ourselves in the beauty of the place, wandering freely and absorbing the sights while swimming in the brackish waters where the river met the sea. The water was refreshingly cool, offering the perfect escape to relax and embrace our time in this hidden paradise. The day overflowed with nature's wonders, and nothing could diminish the joy of discovering this remote cove.
Afternoon:
After our unforgettable experience at Nagsasa Cove, we embarked on our journey back to Barangay Pundaquit with hearts overflowing with gratitude. The natural beauty we had just explored made a profound impact on all of us. Though we initially considered visiting another cove or destination, the allure of returning to our accommodation embraced us. We chose to pause and immerse ourselves in the tranquil atmosphere, reflecting on our remarkable adventures.
Later in the afternoon, we ventured to the nearby wet market in San Antonio. The vibrant market buzzed with life, offering an array of fresh seafood, and we eagerly selected shrimp and fish for dinner. The lively market was a beautiful reminder of local culture, enriching our experience and providing the perfect ingredients for our evening feast.
Evening:
Back at our accommodation, our driver—who was also quite skilled in the kitchen—took charge of cooking while I helped with the grilling. Preparing a meal together is a beautiful experience, especially with fresh ingredients. The air was filled with the delightful aroma of grilling seafood as we embraced the warmth of a cozy, family-style dinner under the open sky.
As evening fell, we gathered around the table set beneath the trees, the stars twinkling above us. We savored the fruits of our labor and enjoyed a simple yet delicious meal in great company. The combination of fresh seafood, good conversation, and tranquil surroundings created a perfect ending to a beautiful day, reminding us of the joy in life's simple moments.
Day 3: Revitalized and Recharged
Morning:
On the third day, we awakened to a sense of rejuvenation, the soft rays of the early morning sun painting a warm, golden hue across the landscape. The sky transformed into a vivid canvas of pinks and oranges as the sun slowly rose, providing a stunning backdrop to our surroundings. We took our time enjoying a leisurely breakfast, savoring the last remnants of the delicious seafood dinner from the night before. Seated together, we relished each bite, the flavors still fresh in our memories. Laughter danced through the air as we exchanged stories and playful banter with our colleagues, the bonds of camaraderie and friendship deepening with each shared moment. The atmosphere was filled with a sense of peace and connection, as we all appreciated the simple joys of our time together in this beautiful setting.
Late Morning:
After a delightful breakfast, we took our time gathering our belongings, carefully folding clothes and organizing our gear in preparation for departure. As we finished packing, we placed a call to our host to confirm that everything at the accommodation was in perfect order before we officially checked out. A warm sense of satisfaction washed over us as we reflected on the incredible experiences we had packed into such a brief visit. The laughter, adventures, and breathtaking views would stay with us long after we left. Though our time there was coming to an end, we knew we were taking with us the cherished memories of a truly rejuvenating trip.
Afternoon:
Before saying our final goodbyes to San Antonio, we chose to visit a local Pakistani biryani restaurant, a perfect culmination of our culinary journey. We savored the rich and flavorful spices that had become a meaningful part of our experience. With our bellies full and hearts aglow, we headed to the car, ready to embark on our next adventure.
As we departed, the calm and serenity of the past three days enveloped us. Leaving San Antonio, Zambales, we carried the rejuvenation gained from nature’s beauty and the cherished moments shared.
