A Continental Trip

Breeze exhales in your left ear. Inhale sea spray. Hot sun consumes the thick jungle and complexions, varnishing the lucky ones until they sparkle. Your boneless body slithers into a hammock. Shadows of palm fronds dance over bare legs, chased by sunbeams. Toenails resemble pink shells in the sand.

We’d gone to Mexico for the sun, waves, and underage drinking, my brother and I. He had just turned eighteen, I was twenty, and the idea of cruising the beach with an insulated water bottle full of tequila was too good to pass up. The beach in question wrapped invitingly around the bay that Sayulita, the up and coming tourist destination numero uno on Mexico’s temperate, jungle backed Pacific coast was situated on. It was familiar to us, and a favorite. During happier times in our childhood, we had gone with our parents and youngest brother to bask in the sun and surf the ever-present waves. The key to a day at the beach is never spending too long on land or in the water. Too long in the water and even a serious surfer will be exhausted within hours of entering, although this was made easier to fight off in Sayulita’s warm waters and mild currents. Spend too long on land, especially in Mexico, and one will resemble a boiled lobster; stiff, red skin wrapped tightly around digits, puckered lips, and sunken eyes. It’s not a pretty look and dehydration makes a beach drinking binge impossible.

A Paradise
Hello, I want to tell you about my adventure in the Domician Republic. I want to share about what I have seen and where I've been to. My friend and I went to the Dominican Republic for a vacation, and some volunteering work. I had to pack some unusual things. I had to bring some extra things that they might not have there–their country is strict. They had to look through my suitcase at the border. But from the airplane, I look out of the window, and everything look different. All of my worries were gone. The view was breathtaking! It's so beautiful from the minute you step out of the airplane.

We've all heard the common preaching of "you kids have it so easy, when I was a kid I had to walk through three feet of snow to get to school!" Sure, that sounds like no easy feat to myself, I have no affinity for winter, but I think I have most people beat when it comes to daily treks to school. Where I lived even an inch of snow would have meant world-ending disaster but I had plenty against me nonetheless.
