Sacred Stones
In 1806, while on their historic journey across Montana, the Lewis and Clark Expedition encountered several signs of the first inhabitants of this great land. Pictographs and petroglyphs were inscribed on rock faces by the tribes that lived in this area as well as nomadic tribes that followed the bison herds across the Great Plains. From Clark's Journal ". . .on the face of this rock the figures of animals". To an archaeologist, there is a distinct difference between pictographs and petroglyphs. Pictographs are intricate designs painted on a hard surface, and petroglyphs are chiseled or carved into the rock surface.

A virtual walk across the Brooklyn Bridge
This is a public service announcement. Good morning! Good afternoon! Good evening! I really hope you’re well, and that everyone you love is well. This is tough stuff. It’s a pain to be stuck inside. It’s hard to worry about people and worry about the world. You’re in lockdown. You're self-isolating. You’re social-distancing. You feel cooped up, stir crazy and maybe a little scared. I know I am; I’m there with you. So: I’d like to invite you to take a walk with me, a walk across the Brooklyn Bridge.

Traveling during a pandemic
I made plans to travel to New York City for spring break several months ago. With no classes, a student media convention happening at the end of the week and a desire to tour New York University, I figured mid-March was the perfect time to finally visit the city I've been dreaming about since childhood. Then, the coronavirus pandemic happened.

Mobile, AL: One of America's Most Romantic Getaways
Probably the largest pre-requisite for a city to be considered a romantic getaway are the sunsets. If an area lacks a gorgeous dusk, what's the point of packing up the bags (and your partner) to head out there? This guru of romance certainly can't think of one. The third largest city in Alabama, Mobile, sitting on its south eastern border, has just as beautiful sunsets as anywhere, due to it residing in the Mobile Bay, a spectacular body of water which connects to the Gulf of Mexico. Not only does Mobile have gorgeous sunsets, but whether you travel to Orange Beach, Dauphin Island or Florida's Pensacola Beach, you have some of the most dazzling, white sand beaches in existence. So not only is Mobile terrifically romantic, but it is completely surrounded by romance as well! How many places can say that?

This Happened In Vegas
Living in Las Vegas, Nevada since 2004, the above is a first. I’ve seen every size, nationality and color of Elvis Presley walking the strip, entertaining on Fremont Street posing for pictures and officiating marriages. There are beautiful show girls everywhere. Freemont Street is filled with vendors and tourists who don’t want the hustle and bustle of the strip. Also, the casinos are very close in proximity of each building and this is easier for lots of seniors to navigate visiting each casino. As most are aware, almost all casinos on the strip each individually cover a couple of blocks; and almost always very crowded. Downtown Vegas is a much more chilled atmosphere and seemingly caters to seniors and the disabled.

Mono Lake to Mammoth & Yosemite
Mono Lake is one of oldest lakes in existence, known in part for its bird life, evidenced by the nests on top of some tufa. Watching the gulls chase after the ground-dwelling, mass-moving sand bugs yesterday was entertainment itself. But today, it is 5:15 AM and all is still- not another soul in sight. I am mesmerized by the sounds of the birds in the water and on the tufa, flying overhead, skimming the water, disrupting the beautiful reflections on the lake as they swim towards shore. As I sit, the sun comes up over the glacier-cut hills and sets the Sierras and lake alight. It was a moment I will likely never forget.

Bodie to Mono Lake A Road Trip of History and Beauty
I set out with 15 pages of printouts from every source I could find on the Sierras. My route was somewhat structured by available rooms, since I waited until the last minute to book. And given the mileage I was aiming for, and the intent NOT to spend every day, all day in the car, I decided to leave the Southern Tahoe, Carson City area to another trip. But the Eastern Sierras and Highway 395, touted as an area not to miss, were beckoning me.
