My Greatest Bookstore Adventure
Considering Los Angeles, CA is a concrete jungle of sorts, there is always little hidden gems to find. Having lived in California, there is so much to do and see that you would never be bored. I recently got back into reading in 2018 after my struggles with anxiety and depression began to hit new levels of highs and lows. I never seemed to be able to find a balance in life, but reading provided the opportunities of an escape into a world full of adventures and problems that were not my own.

Evening in Japan (Travel from Home #5). Top Story - February 2021.
I was looking forward to sushi for almost a month before I finally managed this travel from home trip to Japan. The evening felt like a wonderful treat! I was so excited, I ended up indulging a little bit by buying some extra food.

Tea in England (Travel from Home #3)
My Harry Potter group hosts a tea every year. This year, we shared tea virtually via Zoom on board the Hogwarts Express on the way to Hogwarts at the beginning of September. I took the opportunity to incorporate that into a personal fake trip to England.

Dancing and Dinner in India (Travel from Home #8)
I forgot that I wanted to fake visit China in February in honor of the Chinese Lunar New Year, and by the time I remembered, I was already halfway through my Bollywood movie. So I’ll just have to do China next year for the year of the tiger. Because my sister was adopted from India, I grew up learning about the culture (and mostly hating the food); as a family, we’d attend an Indian cultural immersion summer camp every year. In some ways, my fake trip there felt familiar, but there were also some new experiences to enjoy. So I had a lot of fun, even though I forgot my original plan.

Visiting the Fictional North Pole (Travel from Home #6)
For weeks, I debated about what to do for my December trip. I wanted something appropriate for the time of year and thought seeing the Northern Lights from Alaska might be a good option (it’s on my bucket list to go see them for real one day). But after talking with my friend from Alaska, it became evident that there weren’t a lot of winter food options fit for a vegetarian. Where was I going to find a baked Alaska, and did that even count because it was invented in New York to celebrate Alaska’s statehood?

Love Always, Ruthie Mae
A Tree Anthony Smith rounds a gently sloping curve in the trail and is greeted by a large oak tree. The massive branches stretched up toward the sky, leaving a large grassy shaded area below, much too inviting to pass up. He moved toward it, whistling to catch the attention of the dog trotting along in front of him. The sheltie turned and trotted back to its owner.
