Castle of Diosgyor

Boldogkő Castle is a medieval castle in northern Hungary, near the border with Slovakia. It is located in the village of Boldogkőváralja. It was built in the 13th century, after the Mongol invasion, to protect the road and the valley of the Hernád River. Built in a unique shape, the castle follows the contours of the steep andesite rock it sits on. Boldogko Castle includes the lower castle, the upper castle, the palace, the chapel, the tower, and the bastion.

The village is home to the Bestillo Pálinka House, which produces and sells fruit brandy.

Bory Castle is a castle complex in Szekesfehervar, Hungary. It was built in the Scottish, Romanesque, and Gothic styles. The castle was built by Jeno Bory, a Hungarian sculptor and architect. There are thirty rooms, seven towers, and eleven courtyards. Bory Castle has hundreds of statues, paintings, and mosaics. It is open to the public as a museum and gallery. Visitors can climb the towers for amazing views and walk among the sculptures in the garden. It hosts cultural events and weddings.

Buda Castle is a historical castle and palace complex. The castle sits on the southern tip of Castle Hill overlooking the Danube River. It is part of the Budapest World Heritage Site. Buda Castle, as a royal residence, was built by King Bela IV of Hungary in the 13th century. The castle has been destroyed and rebuilt.

Around what is known as the Lion Courtyard, the six wings of Buda Castle are labeled from A to F. Four wings of the castle are home to the Hungarian National Gallery, which displays artworks by Hungarian artists from the Middle Ages to the present day. Here you can also find the former throne room and the coronation jewels of the Hungarian kings.

The southern wing is home to the Budapest History Museum, exploring the history of Budapest. The museum also features some ruins and reconstructions of the medieval palace, such as the Gothic chapel and the Knights’ Hall.

The western wing is home to the National Szechenyi Library, which has a copy of every book published in Hungary.

Castle of Diosgyor (pictured above) is a medieval fortress located in the historical town of Diosgyor, now part of the city of Miskolc in northern Hungary. It sits on a hill near a road that leads to Poland. The castle has four towers and a rectangular courtyard. It was restored in 2014, and the rooms were furnished with medieval furniture. There is a museum, a knight’s hall, a chapel, and a waxwork exhibition. The castle hosts many cultural events, such as festivals, concerts, and reenactments, and is open to visitors, offering guided tours and interactive programs.

Csókakő Castle is a historic fortress in Hungary on the edge of the Vértes Mountains. It was built in the 13th century after the Mongol invasion to protect a strategic route to Székesfehérvár, the former capital of Hungary. The castle offers amazing views over the Mór Basin and the Bakony Hills. It is a popular destination for hikers, bikers, and rock climbers. Csókakő Castle hosts various events and programs, such as medieval festivals, concerts, exhibitions, and workshops.

Eger Castle is a historical fortress located in the town of Eger. It is famous for being a defense against the Turkish invasion in 1552. The castle sits on a hill overlooking the surrounding landscape. Visitors can explore the walls, towers, bastions, and dungeons.

The castle is home to the Dobó István Castle Museum, displaying the history of the castle from the Middle Ages to the 18th century. The museum also features a wax museum and a cellar system and offers amazing views of the town.

The Eger Picture Gallery has a collection of Hungarian and European art from the 16th to the 20th centuries.

Sumeg Castle is a medieval fortress near the town of Sumeg. The castle was built by King Bela IV in the 13th century and later given to the Archdiocese of Veszprem. It sits on a hill north of Lake Balaton, the largest lake in Central Europe. Sumeg Castle has two towers at each end and a walled pathway leading to the main courtyard. There is also a chapel, a museum, a well, and a dungeon. It offers historical equestrian games, knight tournaments, medieval festivals, and concerts. The castle also has a tavern where guests can enjoy traditional Hungarian dishes and drinks.

Vajdahunyard Castle is located in the City Park of Budapest, Hungary. It was built in 1886 for the Millennial Exhibition, celebrating the 1,000th anniversary of the Hungarian conquest of the Carpathian Basin. The castle is a mix of Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque styles.

Vajdahunyad Castle is home to the Museum of Hungarian Agriculture, the largest agricultural museum in Europe.

A statue of Anonymus, a medieval chronicler who wrote the Deeds of the Hungarians

A bust of Bela Lugosi, a Hungarian-American actor popular for portraying Count Dracula

Throughout the year the castle plays host to festivals, concerts, and exhibitions.

Visegrad Citadel is a historical fortification located on the right bank of the Danube River. The castle includes the Upper Castle, or Citadel, and the Lower Castle, or Palace. It was the royal residence and the center of political and cultural life in medieval Hungary for several centuries. It was restored in the 20th century and became a museum and a tourist attraction. Visegrád Citadel is open to visitors throughout the year, except on Mondays.
