Pole To Pole To Scaleber Force

A Walk To A Waterfall In Settle, Yorkshire

Scaleber Force

Introduction

every year I come to Settle and one of the walks I like to do is to Scaleber Force (also known as Scaleber Foss and Scalener Falls) which is a local waterfall. I always worry that I won't be able to do it, although every year I do, and this year has been no different.

So Why Do I Worry?

I worry because I think if I can't do it then I am losing my fitness, also the fact that this walk is a one in five gradient makes it hard for anyone let alone me.

My dad is an ex-boxer and he told me that when he trained he ran between one set of street lights then walked between the next pair of streetlights. There are no streetlights on this walk but there are telegraph poles, so when I started up the steep road I walked to a telegraph pole then rested til I felt ready for the next stage.

After about half a mile I had forgotten that the road flattens out, making the walking far easier. That meant that I had worried unnecessarily and the rest of the walk was relatively easy.

This means I won't have to worry when I next take this walk.

Scaleber Foss never disappoints and I shared these pictures and videos on Instagram:

I took pictures and videos before turning back for home, although then the fog started to come down.

Conclusion

This is on my first full day in Settle, waiting for the Christmas Fireworks. I have written about Scaleber Force before and these are my previous visits.

Thank you so much for reading.

With beautiful walking areas near you I’m sure you’ll keep working out that fitness!

  • "I worry because I think if I can't do it then I am losing my fitness" I always have these kinda irrational fear, not only in fitness but for everything in life, lol

What great sites on a grand walk you had and loved the images. It appeared so quiet.
