How to Celebrate Michigan in the Winter
Michigan wears winter well. Our roads are among the worst in the nation, but dang is that snow pretty when it glistens in the sunlight. Snowmen, snow forts, snow angels, snow fights, snow and ice festivals...so many activities to enjoy!

Tears and Fears in Kakum National Park. Top Story - January 2019.
"Don't look down," I whisper to myself. Ahead of me lies my nemesis, two planks with a rope handle hanging over empty space. Never a fan of heights, I consider backing out and heading down the mountain. The faces of several small children half my height eagerly walking across the bridge make me swallow my fears and step on the shaky boards. The pit in my stomach grows larger but my ego goads me on. My pride demands that I don't wimp out in front of these children. I stare fixedly ahead and slowly place one foot in front of the other, my fingers clenching the rope handle in a death grip.

Bashing the Beach in St Aubin's
Starting the Morning's Adventures From where we were having breakfast at the Somerville Hotel we could fully appreciate the wide sweeping arc of St Aubin’s Bay as it stretched around to St Helier. The buildings waiting and watching for the tide to come back in glinted in the sun. The beach was a pale pastel yellow that only Turner could do any artistic justice to. The water was a pale wash of green and blue with a border of pure white where the waves hit the shore. This was too good a day for staying in.

Different Ways to Approach Long-Term Travel
If you really want to see the world and experience everything there is beyond your hometown, then the only real way to do that is through long-term travel. The Somerville Hotel, St. Aubin's, Jersey
Arrival After meeting my wife at the bus stop in St. Aubin’s, we took a short walk along the sea front where restaurants looked out over the harbour. Then up a steep hill and there at the top of the hill the welcoming lights of the Somerville Hotel. And thankfully, it was as warm as I had hoped back at the bus stop back in St. Helier.

Reality RV
It's everyone's dream to sell everything you own and travel this beautiful country in an RV. No clocks or time constraints. Nowhere in particular that you need to be. If you don't like the neighborhood, you can break camp and find another one. I'm never been without a roof over my head and food in my stomach while my family and I explore the highways and byways of America, seeing sights some will never see. The bright blue of a cloudless Colorado sky. The ocean off the coast of Oregon. The field in Pennsylvania where United flight 93 crashed on that fateful September day. The swamps of southern Georgia and the masterpiece that is Mount Rushmore. Nothing is out of reach.

Italy
I have a love-hate relationship with Italy. The sun-drenched strip of landscape is dotted with fruit plantations, vineyards, stocky stone buildings, and ridiculous drivers, all tied together by huge, loud families running farms and restaurants with all manner of foodstuffs incomparable to anything you've ever put in your mouth before.

Jersey Revisited
The X15 soon had me transported from the airport to the bus station in St Helier. Where the buses offload their passengers, the lighting is similar to Security in Southampton Airport that I had passed through about 90 minutes ago. Inside the cavernous hall are a few inquiry desks and some seating in the same design as at the airport. All designed to let bus passengers know they are welcome to spend even less time here than back at the airport.
