A Fantasy Pirates Life
Every since I watched the Goonies and Pirates of the Carribean, I have always wanted to be a pirate. I thought it would be fun to sail around on a big beautiful Ship like the Black Pearl or The Majestic "Inferno", but if I am going to do something like that I need to be realistic about it. First of all, there are no restrooms on a pirate ship! nor are there showers, and the captains quarters are not very accomodating for a woman who expects to be treated like a princess! Yes, I said "expects" because I am a spoiled brat! My husband makes sure I have any and everything I need, not want, but need. If I want something and I can prove it's usefulness, then he won't argue with me about it, because I am unfortunately known for buying things that I "need" and as time goes on, they sit collecting dust, until I give them away or sell them. As he says "but you just HAD to have it" so I am not allowed to buy it unless I can prove it's use, which is fair, and saves money.

One lonely sail
As I sit here on this beautiful October day on the beach in Puerto Vallarta, I see a single lonely sailboat on the horizon. It is mesmerizing to watch. Sails have always been hypnotic to me. I grew up in a small town in Ohio but early on I learned to love the ocean. It started with family trips to Florida. The love affair has continued to this day. I am a beach bum at heart. It is the same with sailing. I have always been fascinated with sailboats. I love watching sailboats on the water. They transport me to thoughts of high adventure and romance. They also cause me to reflect on decisions I have made. And decisions I’ve yet to make. Sipping on my beer, on this Mexican beach, all I can think when I see that single sail is that could be me. I laughed as I motioned to the bartender to bring me another round. I have a story to tell, and it will go better with beer.

Fair Winds
The crisp salty air flows like a magical dance with the ocean. The sight is the perfect marriage to the well-known pirate; Captain Jonathan H. Steele. He stands before the bowsprit of his ship, “The Cutthroat,” looking out to the distance. He feels that cool breeze flow through his thick, black, shoulder-length hair while his tricorne hat nestles snuggly on his head. His suntanned harsh-looking face shows the exposure of the sun while his sea-blue eyes tell many-a-tale of his great adventures. But nothing is bigger to the latest adventure he is about to embark on.

The Float of a Lifetime
The spring has come, and the summer is upon us... The conditions for rafting are as prime as they get, with the spring runoff swelling the banks on either side of the Kicking Horse River. Through the tall and slender Douglas-fir trees on the way to the launch site — as we weave down a dirt road in a classic American yellow school bus — you can see the water glistening from the heat of the hot sun. The rays from the sun are reflecting off the backwater — and off the pillows and eddies — and they strike your eyes with such a powerful intensity that you must divert your gaze. Still, the dazzling and frothy turquoise waters burn into your cornea so that the image is retained, forevermore.

The Ship at Dawn
In that one moment, everything went quiet. The pace of the world slowed, and the stiff breeze had all but dissipated. The first tendrils of deep red sunlight had begun to emerge over the horizon, snaking lazily across the sea as dawn broke.

Celebrate Black History and Family in Atlanta
Atlanta is one of the biggest destinations for African American heritage tours in the United States because of its rich Black history especially as one of the centers of the Civil Rights motion. The city holds the largest Black History Month parade in the United States yearly. It is likewise a place for numerous archaeological sites and destinations connected to African American heritage covering centuries from the colonial United States to the present.
