This is Megan McGinley - she is a SOLDIER of LOVE
NOT a immigrant, but definitely one of strongest women I ever met // New York 2020

How often do we talk honestly and freely about our emotions and how we are feeling? Now a days its almost "shameful” to talk about how high and low we can feel.
We are constantly trying to juggle, our jobs, our dreams and ambitions - our friendships and our love stories. Megan came to NYC a few years ago for work and quickly fell into a relationship with someone she had been friends with since middle school. After a couple of years she found out that he was cheating on her for the majority of their relationship.
Things ended very badly and she felt so low that she felt like she needed to do something so she started taking antidepressants and seeing a therapist.
She told me: “I think the one thing that has ever made me feel so high and so low is love."
Her friend told her about the Camino in Spain. If you've never heard of it, its a walk across Northern Spain."I just felt like I needed to fuck off for a bit." She said, "It was funny because I thought I was going to do this whole trip/ journey by myself and really do a deep dive into my life and figure it all out." Like life, the Camino taught her that she is never alone, during your journey people come and go, some of them stay, people can help remind you of who you are. You don't need to figure it all out overnight. it IS about the journey not the destination. "You find the beauty in the little things, like sharing a meal, laughing, the sunrise or sunset, a romantic fling that makes you feel like a kid again." She realized it was ultimately up to me to pull myself up but people come into your life and give you a hand and that's perfectly ok.
Her journey is not over yet. She still sometimes struggles with letting go over the need to control everything. The "fear" of having to meet the society standards of what is normal or "expected". "I still put a lot of pressure on myself to hit all these marks."
She told me, "when I travel I feel free" but she is learning now that the journey never ends.
