The capital of the African country of Gabon


The Komo River runs through Libreville and the best way to get to know the city is to take a boat tour on the river. Along the way you can spot local wildlife.

The National Museum of Arts, Rites, and Traditions of Gabon houses a collection of artifacts, sculptures, and masks that highlight the country’s rich traditions.

Even though you cannot enter you can admire the Presidential Palace located along the coastline. It was established by President Bongo during his term of governance in 1970.

Take a walk along the Boulevard Triomphal where you can see government buildings, embassies, ministries, and iconic monuments.
The Ministry of Forestry and Environment is a kind of symbol of nature and representation of the Gabonese society.
Another most photographed structure in the city is the Ministry of Mines and Petrol.
Ocean Side Boulevard pictured above) stretches along the coast with green vegetation. It is the spot chosen by families and newlywed couples to take long walks, There are wooden benches to relax upon, tall trees for shade, small parks, monuments, and iconic sculptures. It is also a great place for bike riding.

Marche du Mont-Bouet is one of the largest markets in Gabon. Here you can get to know the local people and enjoy the wide range of goods from traditional fabrics to crafts to food.

St. Michael’s Cathedral is one of the most prominent religious landmarks in Libreville. Its unique architecture, including wooden pillars carved by a famous Gabonese artist.The cathedral has carved pillars sculpted by renowned artist Zephirin Lendogno of Lambatene. There are murals and a big statue of St. George killing the dragon.

The French Cultural Center is a modern building hosting French musicals, shows, presentations, meetings and national events.There are live concerts, shows, and operas staged.

The Sacred Forest of Angondjé is an important cultural site for the local Fang people. It’s not only a sacred space but also a beautiful natural reserve where you can see rare wildlife and plant species.

Cap Esterias is a coastal region with awesome ocean views.Water activities here include fishing and snorkeling.

L’Eglise St. Marie is a marvelous church and place of worship for Christians.

Akanda National Park is among the best known natural reserves in Gabon. It is located just outside of Libreville. The park has mangroves and tidal flats. It is the place for birdwatchers and nature lovers.

Just 5 km from Libreville you'll find the Arboretum de Sibang. This is a protected rainforest and has numerous native tree species.

300 km from Libreville you'll find the Lope National Park. This is a UNESCO World Heritage site that is known for its savannahs, rainforests, and wildlife. Animals making their homes here include elephants, gorillas, and buffaloes.

The Corniche is a scenic coastal road that offers breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean. It’s a great place to walk, jog, or simply enjoy a sunset.

The Village des Tortues is located just outside of the city. It is a sanctuary for endangered sea turtles.

Fernan-Vaz is a lovely lagoon located on the coast of Gabon. It is home to a wide variety of bird species, including flamingos, herons, and pelicans. You can take a boat tour to explore the area and spot wildlife.

The Chutes de Tchimbelle are found about 150 km from the city. These are amazing waterfalls surrounded by dense tropical forest. You can hike the trails and enjoy nature.

Crystal Mountains National Park is known for its mountainous terrain, dense forests, and unique wildlife. The park is ideal for trekking and wildlife spotting.
