Place de l’Indépendance is a large space where you can find people gathered to see impressive architecture and history.

Here you'll find the Monument Patriote which is a symbol of patriotism. It pays homage to the brave people who played a pivotal role in the fight for independence in Cameroon. Its sculptural details and symbolic elements narrate a story of courage, making it a poignant reminder of the nation’s historic struggle for freedom.

The Monument de la Réunification also situated at Place de l’Indépendance, is a powerful symbol of unity. Depicting two figures embracing, representing the merging of French and British Cameroon, this monument celebrates the harmonious coexistence of diverse cultures within the nation.

The Statue de Charles Atangana pays tribute to a visionary leader in Cameroon’s history. Charles Atangana’s legacy is immortalized through this statue, serving as a reminder of his contributions to the nation.

The Mfoundi River is a significant waterway flowing through the heart of Yaoundé. This river is a vital part of the city’s ecosystem and cultural heritage, offering both a natural habitat for diverse wildlife and a scenic backdrop for urban life. The river flows through the bustling neighborhoods. Along the riverbanks, you can find vibrant markets, traditional crafts, and food stalls that reflect the rich culture of the region. The river is also an excellent spot for leisurely walks and picnics.

The Basilique Marie-Reine-des-Apôtres, also known as the Basilica of Mary, Queen of Apostles is an impressive Roman Catholic basilica,a significant religious and historical landmark in the country. The basilica was built in the early 1960s. Its architecture is a combination of traditional African designs with modern elements. The basislicas towering spires have beautiful stained glass windows. Inside you'll find beautiful mosaics, sculptures, and ornate decorations. Besides services the basilica is used for important religious ceremonies and events.

From the top of the hill where the basilica stands you can enjoy breathtaking views of the city. There are landscaped gardens and pathways for strolling.

The Cathedral of Our Lady of Victories (Pictured above) is a stunning example of neo-Gothic architecture and a significant religious site for many Catholics in the region. This cathedral was completed in 1957. It is a place of worship and also a cultural landmark reflecting the historical influences of colonialism and modernism in Cameroon. The impressive altar has ornate decorations and stainded-glass window depict Biblical scenes.

Marche Central is a bustling market which sells local produce and traditional crafts. You can sample the cuisine of Cameroon as well as exotic fruits from the local vendors.

Abali gallery displays contemporary art and transports visitors into a world of traditional craftsmanship. The gallery curates a diverse collection of African art, including intricate sculptures, textiles, and handcrafted items.

Musée de la Blackitude celebrates African heritage. The museum has exhibits with art, artifacts, and narratives. It lets visitors learn about diverse cultures and histories that shaped the continent.

The National Museum of Yaounde displays Cameroon’s historical treasures. Comprehensive exhibits range from prehistoric artifacts to contemporary art, this museum provides a chronological journey through the nation’s past. Visitors can explore archaeological finds, traditional crafts, and artistic expressions.

Mefou National Park near Yaounde is the place for wildlife lovers with diverse ecosystems. This sanctuary is home to a variety of species, including primates, elephants, and exotic birds. Guided tours are available. The park is home to many flora and fauna.

It boasts a large population of primates, including chimpanzees, gorillas, and mandrills. Visitors can enjoy guided safaris and hikes through the park.

Mvog-Betsi Zoo is home to a wide array of exotic species. From lions and giraffes to monkeys and crocodiles. Visitors can walk along well-miantained pathways and observe the animals in their enclosures. Animal feeding sessions and educational talks are also conducted, giving visitors a chance to learn more about the different species and their conservation status. There are also picnic areas and playgrounds for recreation.

Manèges De Ya-fé is an amusement park offering a range of rides and attractions suitable for all ages. There are carousels and thrilling rides.

Lac Municipal de Younde is an artificial lake that provides space for relaxation. You can take boat ride, have a lakeside picnic, or just stroll along the edge of the water.

Mount Cameroon, located near the city of Yaoundé is the highest peak in West Africa. It offers amazing landscapes, diverse flora and fauna, and impressive views. The mountain is of great significance to the local Bakweri people, who consider it sacred and believe it to be the dwelling place of the gods. Visitors can go hiking and climb to the summit a daunting task that takes around three to four days.

The surrounding national park is home to a variety of wildlife such as African elephants, chimpanzees, and a wide array of bird species. Guided tours are available.

The cascading Akok-Bekoe Waterfalls are located in a lush forest. These falls have multiple tiers each level offering amazing views. The crystal-clear water flows down the rocky cliffs, creating beautiful pools where visitors can take a refreshing dip. The surrounding verdant vegetation adds to the natural beauty of the area. You can go hiking and explore the surrounding area.
