How do you view Japan's legal form to encourage women to become housewives, for example, the husband's salary will increase if his wife is a housewife, but will increase taxes?
So far, many tax policies in Japan have indeed indirectly made women tend to be housewives, intentionally or unintentionally.

Why Feminism Fuels Patriarchy
Wisdom is often collected in the moments that we choose to walk away from something, in other words, when we concede to the natural death of an idea. At the budding age of 23, I felt completely lost after leaving my Christian based religion. I remember feeling disillusioned and cynical towards the church. The experience that I had while departing from my conservative Christian days is not unlike the experience that I had walking away from feminism. Feminism, similarly to religion, is a particular set of beliefs about the world, that points us toward individual and collective actions, in hopes of creating a better world. I won't analyze the problems with the collective action that religion has taken to "create a better world," mostly because religion has done quite the opposite (but that's for another article.) But I would like to dive into the reasons that I believe the world is ready for a new system of thinking, beyond the capacity of our current form of feminism.

Thoughts on Being
Over the last several days, weeks, and perhaps my entire life, I've reflected on what it means for me to be a woman in the United States and in the world as we know it. Growing up, throughout my many lives; a young girl on a tiny island; a blossoming teen in an even tinier small rural town; to a seemingly older and older adult chasing bigger and bigger cities; I have been predominantly raised and inspired by almost exclusively women. After my parents divorce, I was raised by my mother and grandparents* with on and off weekend visits with a father I wasn't allowed to be alone in the same room with. I was active in Girl Scouts, Women in Engineering (during my ill-fated stint as a chemical engineering major), Society of Women Engineers (yes those are different), and a sorority. I was surrounded by friends, mentors (like my high school chemistry teacher who I seem to be more and more like every day), and family that showed me all the many ways a woman could be. None of which were incapable, fragile (baring how we as humans are all fragile), dumb, or helpless as the rest of the world was trying to convince me.

Romance books, fashion & other "girl" things...
If you looked at my bookshelf as a teenager, you would have found crime, war, contemporary drama, history and potentially some fantasy. Never in a million years would you have found anything by Jojo Moyes, Sophie Kinsella or any other romance/chick-lit author.
