We talk pucks and objects of that kind. We yell, complain, and analyze in the language of hockey fandom. Gretzky can do no wrong.
Longest World Series Game: Dodgers and Blue Jays Battle Into History
Baseball fans live for moments that test both the body and spirit. Game 3 of the 2025 World Series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Toronto Blue Jays delivered exactly that—a marathon of grit, strategy, and endurance that will be remembered as one of the longest World Series games in history.

Cavaliers vs Pistons: Two Teams, Two Timelines
When the Cleveland Cavaliers and Detroit Pistons step onto the court, fans see more than an ordinary midseason matchup. It’s a snapshot of two franchises moving along very different paths — one climbing toward contention, the other laying the foundation for the future.

Boston Fight Party
Hard to believe that the month of October is slowly ending, but even so, it'll still be early in the NHL season. The upcoming month of November is only important when it comes to American Thanksgiving, as teams who are above the playoff line by then usually stay up there and end up in the NHL's Sweet 16 by the time the season ends in April. But that's November. The focus is on the last Saturday in October, and the Colorado Avalanche were in Beantown facing the Boston Bruins.

John Jay Loses Overtime Thriller to Rye
See Photos at end On Saturday October 4, 8-1 John Jay welcomed 8-1 Rye to Contest Field and the team’s doubled down to a late game 2-2 tie. A ferocious back and forth, the tables seemed to tip when a John Jay shot from above the circle grounded past all kinds of sticks and forced the Rye goalie to kick the dribbler away. Unfortunately, for the stop gap, she swung and missed with her kicker, and the Wolves rose in celebration. But the refs stepped in, played party poopers and the actual tipping point was even more of a killjoy.

Adams Division Values
Your eyes are not deceiving you, those jerseys are legit. It was announced prior to the start of the season that the Colorado Avalanche would don the throwback Quebec Nordiques jerseys during a number of select games, and this game was the first of the seven that would see these jerseys return. Even better, the Avs were at home facing the Carolina Hurricanes, and the Canes decided to don the old Hartford Whalers jerseys.

Treehouse of Avalanche
With a lot of the focus on the NFL, the League Championship Series, and even the NBA's return, I've been behind on the Colorado Avalanche recaps. Three games have passed, and with that, this recap is a special three-in-one deal. Fittingly, as an homage to The Simpsons' "Treehouse of Horror" (which aired its 36th edition this past Sunday), this is the "Treehouse of Avalanche."

Somers Falls 5-0 to White Plains
Photos are at end of the article On Thursday September 18, Somers hosted White Plains at the high school, and with two minutes left in the first half, the goal tally was still stuck at number zero. The offensive time of possession was completely another matter and foretold the one sided outcome for the visitors.

Breaking through barriers
It's World Girls’ Ice Hockey Weekend, the IIHF’s annual festival of the grassroots female game. Over the next few days, I’ll be helping put together coverage at IIHF.com. But before now, I wanted to look back to 2019 when I took my daughter, just past her third birthday, along to a local event for the first time.

Put Some Respect on His Name
Forgive the lateness of this recap; so much goodness happened in the world of sports. It's typical of the month of October; the most chaotic month in the sports calendar. Hockey's in the early stages, the NFL is closing in on midseason form, baseball's on the verge of crowning a champion, the CFL is on the home stretch, and the NBA is coming. There's also the Sports Equinox, that one day of the year when the four main leagues all play at once, but that's later in the month.

Crown Jessica Pegula: America’s Tennis Queen in 2025. AI-Generated.
Why “Crown Pegula” Makes Sense Right Now The phrase “Crown Jessica Pegula” suggests something powerful — the idea that she is being crowned or recognised as a tennis monarch. And in 2025, many in the tennis world would argue she deserves that title. From earning her first clay court crown to rising in the rankings, Pegula’s season is becoming nothing short of regal.

Home Opener Sweet Home Opener
Home openers are always special; the first time that a team plays in front of their hometown crowd in the new season is always a huge deal. In the NHL, a team plays 41 games in front of their home crowd. For the Colorado Avalanche, this is our first. Following a big 4-1 win in Los Angeles, the Avs, for the 30th time, took the ice at home, and in this instance, it was against our neighbors to the west, the Utah Mammoth. Yes, Utah's team finally has a name.
