10 Reasons Why 2019 Is the Year of the Period (Yes, That One). Created with: INTIMINA.
Menstrual cycles have been considered taboo for far too long, period. Think about it, talking about menstrual health was a topic that was done in hushed voices, often with a tinge of disgust. Women, who were long considered the “fairer sex,” are often derided for having their monthly menstrual cycle by men. Periods were considered to be a sign that a woman was “not rational enough” to react to situations, and at times, were a supposed sign of uncleanliness.

How to Digitally Detox
If I told you that you would lose all electricity and access to the internet for 24 hours, how would you feel? If you’re anything like me, your heart skips a tiny beat. But what if I miss an important work email? What if something bad happens and I need to call for help? What if I can’t share the experience on social media?

To the Pretty Girls Who Wear Bow Ties
Masculinity in women isn’t the same as masculinity in men. Because it’s not about the tux itself, it’s the strength behind she who’s wearing it. It’s the confidence she has about her place on the spectrum, and it’s her feet deep into the so-called purple part of it.

My Mother's Pots
It's ungraciously early on a biting spring morning and I'm watching my youngest son haring across the school tarmac, little chuffs of steam trailing his wake in the white March sunlight, and I'm crying. Not with the sentimentality such inevitable maternal unbridling provokes—nor icy panic caused by my nest emptying at an alarming rate. I'm crying because the canteen staff are cooking meat and onions, and I'm remembering my mothers shepherd's pie.

Swimming Against the Tide
I’ve lived in the UK since 2006 when I first came over for graduate school. Every year the immigration rules became more stringent, sometimes in surprising ways. For example, when I realised that the rules had changed when I wasn’t looking and would no longer be eligible for a tier one work visa after my PhD. This was because I’d spent my entire final year focused on my PhD (or severely depressed and unable to focus on anything, as is so common in academia) instead of part-time working and earning the minimum income threshold for tier one applicants. Now on the cusp of becoming a citizen, this journey has been the most dehumanizing, dispiriting, and wearying experiences of my life, touching deeply and painfully on my personal identity. I’ve hesitated to share my story because though I experienced it as great hardship in my life, I am still one of the lucky ones. I approached the process with the most possible privilege one can have. Though it was difficult for me, realistically my experience was by far one of the most painless of all the migrants of my acquaintance, and far, far easier than the journey that many others experience.

How I Got Over $290 Worth of Products for $49.99
I've received three FabFitFun boxes so far and the most recent 2019 Spring Box has been my favourite so far by a landslide. With past boxes, I've received some things that I wouldn't necessarily get any use out of, so I would end up putting those items into a giveaway. I can honestly say that, with this box, I loved absolutely everything.

10 Lies I Was Told By Society—And What I Now Know to Be True. Created with: LELO.
I remember first hearing people at school use the term, “slut.” I didn’t fully understand why it was a slut, but it was made clear from the situation that it was not a word I wanted to be called. The girls who were saying it were all pointing in my direction, talking about me, and using that hushed tone people use when they want someone to know that they are being discussed in public.

My Walk Through Selma, Alabama
Despite the hundreds of miles that I had already walked with my daughter, I was not prepared for Selma. The subject never came up. We traveled west from Montgomery, Alabama. Montgomery seemed like a nice, unassuming town. It was a nice place to be. Arriving in Selma, it felt as though the hands of time had been turned back. Here, the extreme poverty was much more evident. People worked very hard for everything they had. It was amazing what a difference 54 miles could make.

Fight Like a Stunt Woman
She’s running. The bad guys are close behind her. She sees a motorcycle that she can use for her to get away. She hops on, gets it started, and right before she can take off, the director yells “CUT!” Who do you call when Wonder Woman needs to leap from a building? Who is the one that makes the Black Widow’s moves so fluid? Who’s that person under the Power Rangers suit during the backflip?

Is Cinema Dying at the Hands of Netflix?
The other day I decided to open Twitter because for some reason I convinced myself that would be a valuable way to use my time. I was greeted by a large picture of Spielberg and the headline "Film fans debate Steven Spielberg's proposed changes for Oscars qualification." As a film fan and lover of many of Spielberg's films, I decided to see what this was all about.

Before the Rice Plant Becomes
There is an undeniable parallel between the history of rice and skin colour. It reminds us that darkness equates to filth, and this is stems from classism. Brown rice had a history of being cheap pig food. Evidently, it became unfathomable for humans to consider eating something meant for a farm animal.

The 2019 Box Office at a Glance
Another year of movies has come and gone, and 2018 has left quite the impression, surpassing 2016 to become the biggest year for movies at $11.9 billion at the domestic box office, with plenty of surprises to boot. There was Black Panther becoming the highest-grossing superhero movie in North America, Infinity War hitting $2 billion worldwide, a Queen biopic making more money than several tentpole films, a Star Wars movie bombing at the box office, the sixth installment of Mission Impossible dodging sequel rot, and Aquaman quickly rising up the ranks to become the highest grossing movie of the DCEU. All things considered, it's no surprise that 2018 did so well, and looking ahead to 2019, it promises to be bigger and better.

Sik-K – 'FL1P' Album Review
Right now, it’s hard to find a rapper more interesting than Sik-K. Evolving his style magnificently over the course of his career, the South-Korean has gone from strength to strength with each passing release, with there seemingly no limit to where his progress can take him.

The Winchester Mystery House and Other Mirrors
One of the house's 40 bedrooms, specifically the one where Sarah died. “She herself is a haunted house. She does not possess herself; her ancestors sometimes come and peer out of the windows of her eyes and that is very frightening.”—Angela Carter, The Bloody Chamber
