Who Are The Real Communists Now?

The moment John Luke called us "ultramasculine fascist faggots," I knew we'd gotten under his skin. Good. I mean, what else can you call us? Ultramasculine, sure--have you seen me and Gore? We're everything John Luke isn't: broad-shouldered, square-jawed, the kind of guys who could throw a punch as easily as they can throw down an argument on Marx. But fascists? And "faggots"? Please.

He only said it because we didn't want him in our circle anymore. He was always there, lurking at the edges, trying to be part of whatever Gore and I were building. But the truth is, Gore and I didn't need John Luke. We were different, better than him. We understood things more deeply, saw through the false promises of this broken system. Sure, we read Marx. We knew the theory. But we weren't like the others, not like those soft, pseudo-intellectual types who spent more time talking than doing.

We did things.

Sometimes, that meant handling the girlfriends. I'll admit, I wasn't exactly gentle with Sarah. But she could be so...aggravating. Always asking questions, trying to dig into things that weren't her business. It wasn't her place to challenge me, not when we had bigger ideas to tackle. And Gore? Gore had the same problems with Beth. Women just didn't get it--too emotional, too soft. They couldn't keep up with the intensity of the revolution.

But that's all over now. They're out of the picture, like John Luke, because they just didn't fit. You can't have weak links in a movement like ours. It's about strength, about endurance. That's what Gore and I have always had, even when we were just two guys shooting pool and arguing over communism in dingy bars. Back then, it was all theory, all ideas. Now, it's different. Now, we have people listening. Watching.

Even John Luke could see that.

He was bitter, jealous, after we rejected him. You could see it in the way his eyes followed us around the room, like some cornered animal, like he wanted in but knew he was too weak to survive in our world. So, when he called us "fascist faggots," we laughed. Gore made a joke about it afterward, said John Luke must've been projecting his own issues. Probably right. Everyone knew John Luke was too sensitive, too bookish. He didn't have what it took to live on the edge like we did. We were always on the front line--fists clenched, minds sharp.

The women, the fights, that was just part of it. It's not like I wanted to bruise Sarah's wrist that one time. It just happened. She pushed too hard, said something that didn't sit right. You know how it goes. Gore understood--he had the same issues with Beth. Sometimes, you just had to put them in their place. They were distractions.

The real work was with the people. Our following grew fast. Every day, more guys would come up to us, nod in agreement when we spoke. They were like us--tired of the hypocrisy, tired of the softness. They wanted something real, something that could tear down the walls of this decaying society. And we were there to give it to them.

It wasn't until later, after everything went down, that I started thinking about what John Luke said. "Fascist faggots." It's funny, really. Me and Gore? Bisexual? He must've been out of his mind. Sure, we were close--best friends, inseparable--but that didn't mean anything. People just didn't get it. They don't understand what it's like to find someone who's as committed as you, who'll follow you into the fire.

Gore and I weren't like the others. We weren't soft. We weren't confused.

We were revolutionaries.
