What is wrong with our world?

A call to think critically

By NBPublished 5 years ago 3 min read

Before starting with this subject, I wanna ask you to read this in a critical way. I want you to think about our society, about our own attitude and about the future that expects us if nothing changes. This is not about conspiracies, instead it's about human nature and the problems that most people usually prefer to ignore.

I'd like to start trying to explain what is democracy, or better said, what was democracy. In the beginning, in the ancient Greece, all the citizens (except of course for slaves) took the decisions of the city in the parliament. That was supposed to be a really good and fair system, or at least that's what our teachers told us, but actually it wasn't that good if you were a slave, wich was the big majority of the population; for a slave it was something similar to a dictatorship, after all, they couldn't take part in any of the parliament meetings, but still had to do all the hard work. It's also important to see that if they could have taken part in those meetings it would've been impossible to properly count the votes and make sure there was no fraud.

Now think about the actual democracy. We're supposed to take part by voting our favorite candidate, who will fight for our ideals, but honestly, if you think critically, all of the parties have corruption related scandals, and the vast majority of them doesn't even try to accomplish what's promised. The worst part, when they don't accomplish their promises there's nothing you can do.

After saying all this I've got only one more thing to highlight about actuality: if this is a democracy, why can't we decide nothing? There're only two possible answers, or we're all slaves and don't know that, or this system is nothing but a fake, designed to stop people from revolutionizing.

Now I'd like you to think about an alternative system. Probably your first answer is communism or anarchy, and if that's the case, you should probably think twice.

About communism, I believe there's no need to explain why can't it work. Just look at the old Soviet union, the so called communist paradise wich turned out to be the deadliest dictatorship in the world. Just look at the ideological purges of everyone who didn't agree with the system and got deported to a gulag. Just think about it, this system allows a few people to take control over the whole lives of all citizens, a system like that today would look more like 1984 (a book you should definitely read) than anything else, and if not look how the Chinese government uses his technology to control everything and everyone.

About anarchy, there's no need to say what happens when there ain't rules. There's always people who'd take advantage and harm the others.

After saying all that you may be wondering what is the best possible solution, and unfortunately I don't have the answer, but I can say a few things about that. To start, the power of the state should be lowered to a minimum, especially in what it comes to the control over the mass media, wich are often used to manipulate people and stop them to think critically. It would also be important to make sure that no government can take part in the education, because when a kid grows up with a set of ideas he may not be able to rationally criticize them, education should always be completely neutral and push kids to think by themselves, and that's only possible when it doesn't depend on the government (unfortunately I don't know what could we do to solve this issue, but you should be aware of that).

As I said, I want you to think about it and decide by yourself what is the best option, and it's important that as much people as possible do this, because everyday is more obvious that our system is falling apart. I decided to write this text after considering what can happen in the next few years with the excuse of the pandemic, to avoid infections, and with a possible future pandemic. The thing is that, if people wants to be safer, they have to give up privacy and rights. Remember the book I mentioned, that's what happens when people wants safety, and that's what will happen if we don't start doing something when we see manipulation.

To finish I'd like to leave an open question, did any government take social measures, as building hospitals or investing in a campaign to teach people how to improve their immunity? What did they do besides spreading fear and cutting down rights? And what does people ask for when they're afraid? I'll answer that last question for you, safety.

If you consider this topic important, please, share this text with your friends, everyone should think about that.
