Trump: What's The Point?

Before and after Trump came into office the 'POTUS' promised peace would come on his watch. He said, during the Biden administration, that the Hamas-Israel and the Ukrainian-Russian conflict would not have happened, on His watch.

Trump was waxing lyrical as he entered the White House that both conflicts would be wrapped up. Peace and tranquillity for all would return and all would be rosy in the garden.

Trump and Biden as Biden's time as Pres. came to an end agreed on a peace deal. The deal was also brokered by Egypt and Qatar, the two key Arab players. And so, in principle and then in word and deed, Hamas and Israel agreed to a ceasefire. Where all Israeli hostages would be released for Palestinian prisoners. This was to be Phase 1 of the deal. Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners were released. Palestinians could breathe again and continue life, in the shattered aftermath of Israel's assaults on the territory. 50,000 or who knows more Gazans lie dead. Countless civilians are maimed for life and civilians will suffer PTSD for ever more. There is hardly any health service, little to no power or water, and starvation and disease are rampant. Aid agencies do what they can to make these wretched people's lives better.

Hamas despite losing leaders, munitions, and men, survived the IDF onslaught. Like all guerilla fighters similar to the Viet Cong, they fought a hit-nd-run, asymmetric style of warfare. They were still able to inflict losses, and injuries on the IDF, one of the most advanced militaries on Earth. Israelis were celebrating too, glad to have their hostages home. No more sirens from rockets coming in from Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran, or the Houthis. No more running to shelters as drones and missiles rained down. No more soldiers coming home dead or injured and no more civilians in the morgue or hospital. Their maniacal leader Netanyahu had agreed to a peace deal, seemingly.

However, the US supported Israel's desire to lengthen Phase 1. The idea is that lengthening Phase 1 would allow the release of more hostages. Hamas wanted to move straight into Phase 2 as agreed in the original deal. Phase 2 would have seen the IDF withdraw from Gaza.

Whatever happened between Hamas and Israel, whatever shenanigans went on between Trump and Netanyahu and indeed, Hamas, the ceasefire is over. Trump seemed to renege on the peace deal and told the fascists in Israel, "Do what you want". And so with those words ringing in Bibi's ears, the war is back on. The war now and probably always was about keeping Bibi in power. And, this is the sad reality of a man who is designated a war criminal, restarting a war. Killing thousands of the enemy and also spilling the blood of his people. All because he wanted to avoid justice and all along was being propped up by America. Whether Trump or Biden, it doesn't matter the USA and the Western world have Israel's back and that's it, right or wrong.

As for Russia and Ukraine, it would seem a 30-day ceasefire is looming. Ukraine has accepted it and Russia wants to or so it seems. However, even as Trump and Putin spoke by phone Russia was bombarding the hell of Ukraine. Ukraine has also been attacking areas in Russia. Russia controls at least 20% of Ukraine and Ukraine has managed to capture a slither of land in Russia. Since Russia's invasion in 2021, this war has ground on. Military, civilian, and infrastructure losses have mounted on both sides.

Zelenskyy has led his people in a Churchillian way. Putin has stuck to his guns sacrificing thousands of Russians. Putin initially invaded Ukraine thinking like Hitler did about the Soviet Union. He could "kick in the door- in" and the whole lot would come tumbling down. Well, with stoic and tenacious Ukrainian resistance as with Hitler and the Soviet Union, the edifice has held and it has not come tumbling down. Europe and the Americans have helped keep that Ukrainian edifice standing. Sending weapons and money to keep Ukraine in the field.

Despite a glitch in relations between Trump and Zelenskyy where Trump briefly cut off military aid and intelligence to Ukraine, the relationship between the two is back on track. Trump has got Zelenskyy to sign a deal for rare earth and in return, the US will continue to support Ukraine. However, this has come at a price, Europe has had to step up. Nations like the UK have upped their defence spending. Trump over the Ukraine-Russia situation has told Europe to "Jump" and Europe has replied, "How high"?

So will a peace deal come about between Russia and Ukraine brokered by Trump? It might but it will at Russia's demands. Like holding onto land captured from Ukraine, Ukraine having a smaller military, and never, never, joining NATO. Will this be acceptable to Ukraine after all the time they have resisted 'Vlad The Invader'?

Can a lasting peace come about between Russia and Ukraine? Can the restarted war between Israel and Hamas ever have a solution? Is Trump wasting His time in trying to bring peace to these conflicts? Is there any point in bringing peace to these wars? Are Trump's efforts all in vain? Can Trump be trusted? Can any of the sides be trusted in these wars? Netanyahu certainly can't be trusted and one wonders about Putin too.
