Trump Pauses Tariffs.

Orange Man Spooked?

Trump.

President Trump waxed lyrical about wanting Americans to buy American goods. Trump, during his first term and 2.0 now, threatened everyone with tariffs. China, China, China, was and is a mantra for the Orange One. Trump probably sleep talks those words too. In Trump's mind, all the ills of the world are China's fault. If it rains or if Trump slips in the shower, President Xi masterminded it. Just like Trump's buddy Bibi Netanyahu blames Hamas for this and Hamas for that. These two guys really need to get a life and find a hobby.

In a sense, getting Americans to buy American goods is understandable. Trump promised to protect American goods and protect American workers who produce those goods. This sounds like the ideal heaven for American shopaholics or even hard-working Americans. However, Trump's tariffs come with a caveat. When Trump launched tariffs on Canada, the EU, China, etc, those nations will and have retaliated. American consumers will see prices hike because of retaliatory tariffs from other nations. If nations like China and blocs like the EU must pay more tax on their goods exported to the US, the US will pay more tax on US goods exported. Ursula Von Der Leyen announced reciprocal tariffs on US goods. Likewise, President Xi has announced tariffs on US goods into China.

When Trump sat with Netanyahu during a press conference, Trump was asked about pausing tariffs. Trump initially denied any reports of pausing tariffs. The White House later clarified that such talk was to use Trump's oft-repeated phrase "Fake news".

Later, when the world was panicking about Trump's tariffs, Trump suddenly announced, "everyone be cool". Something was afoot in the Trump administration. Then Trump seems to have a revelation. DT suddenly announced a 90-day pause on tariffs. Apart from Trump's favourite nation China, not. So what has made Trump suddenly pause or park his tariffs for 90 days? Has something spooked him? Has he genuinely had a rethink? Has he realized that imposing tariffs on competitors will cost America, too?

The UK got off lightly with only a 10% tariff on British goods exported to the US. However, Jaguar, Land Rover, Bentley, Rolls-Royce, all well- known and much sought-after cars in the US, have been hit with 25% tariffs. One car manufacturer has paused exports to see how Trump's tariffs will affect it. However, since Trump has paused tariffs for 90 days, this may be something of a reprieve.

Sir Keir Starmer, who met Trump at the White House, called for "Cool heads" over American tariffs. Starmer, with a barrister's mind, would seem to be well equipped to deal with Trump, his shenanigans, and his much-loved tariffs. Starmer's call for calm, saying nothing is off the table for the UK, even responding to Trump's tariffs, is correct. To panic and make knee-jerk reactions is not the way. Starmer wants to keep in with Trump, rightfully or wrongly, as he wants to maintain this so-called 'special relationship' with the US. Is Starmer afraid of Trump, or is he genuinely being measured in the UK's response to Trump? Trump is a man who craves attention, a controlling, psychopathic person, and throws his toys out of the buggy when he doesn't get his way. Like when he realized Putin was not playing ball over his peace plan for Russia-Ukraine. Trump said he was quote "Pissed off" with Putin. Son of Billy Graham, Franklin Graham, told Trump to "Mind his language"!

The fall-out from Trump's tariffs has been huge. Trump, as usual, comes along with a wrecking ball and smashes and turns upside down everything that has gone before. Certainly, Trump has smashed up everything Biden did before him. The US and China are the world's leading economies. Xi, like Trump, is a strong man, a total stand-off between two silverbacks. In typical male culture, it's not just about China and America, it's about two men and not looking weak.
