Mary Queen of Scots is my most Favorite historical figure.

Although the tragic tell is rarely taught about in schools.

It is a very tragic story it tells about Love and passion, death and loss and a murderous cousin.

After studying her History.

This is her story.

Mary Queen of Scots was born on December 8, 1542 in Linlithgrow palace, West Lothian, Scotland.

Her original name was Mary Stuart.

Mary's Father died when she was only six years old making her at a very young age Queen of Scotland.

She was the Daughter Of King James of Scotland and his second wife, Mary of Guise.

Mary's great grandfather Was Henry VII, making Henry VIII her great Uncle. If you like history then Bingo Elizabeth Dad making her Mary's Cousin.

Since Mary was only six years old when her father died.

she could not take the throne.

Could She?

No her Great uncle Henry VIII wanted to take Control of Scotland, but her mother however ended up acting as regent on her daughters behalf.

Mary was Initially betrothed to Henry VIII son known as Prince Edward of England who also became known as the Dark Prince and King Edward VI.

Sadly though it never worked out for the two because of Scottish Catholics who objected to this plan, since England had separated from the catholic church.

When the Match was denied England attacked Scotland in raids that became known as " The Rough wooing"

At The Age of five, Mary was sent to France, Where she grew up in the luxurious french court. Mary's mother was french, and the Scots had a longstanding alliance with France, So Mary was betrothed to the four year old french heir Also known as Francis II.

In 1558, Mary Married Francis, who was also the eldest son of French King Henry II and Catherine de medicis.

In 1559, Mary's husband was crowned Francis II, making Mary both the Queen of Scotland and Frances queen consort.

Unfortunately they newly wed couple were only married for a year before Francis past away from an ear infection.

Leaving Mary a Widow at only the age of 18 and completely heart broken for about six years.

In 1565 Mary gave into infatuation and she Married her cousin, Henry Stewart, Earl of Darnley.

Mary's new Husband was a grandson of marget Tudor; Mary marrying a Tudor Infuriated Elizabeth Tudor also the Queen Of England.

It also turned Mary's Half brother against her.

Shortly after their marriage, Darnley's ruthless ambition caused problems. in 1566 Darnley and a group of protestant nobles ( which were people who did not believe in what the monarch believed) Viciously murdered David Rizzio, Mary's Italian secretary, stabbing him 56 times.

Mary was pregnant at this time though she gave birth a few months later she did not was to be married to Darnley anymore.

When Darnley was Mysteriously killed Following an explosion at Kirk O filed just out side of Edinburgh.

In Febuary 1567, Foul play was suspected Al-tho Mary's involvement was unclear.

On May 1567 Mary consented to Marry James Hepburn, Earl of Bothwell who was the main suspect in her previous husbands Darnleys murder.

Over the years Bothwell had become a close friend to Mary and was said to have great influence over her.

He also had his own ambitions to become kind, and once he had even abducted Mary and held her captive in Dunbar Castle.

Mary's Scandalous marriage with Bothwell just three months after Darnleys murder made the Scottish nobility rise against her.

Bothwell went into exile, where he was arrested and held captive until his death. Meanwhile, in July 1567 Mary was compelled to leave the throne in Scotland in favor of her Infant son. she was imprisoned in Lochieven castle.

in 1568, Mary escaped from Lochleven catle where she was imprison by her people the scotish nobility for her marriage with bothwell.

she raised an army but she was soon defeated so she fled to England where she sought protection. instead of helping her cousin the Queen arrested Mary and held her captive for the next 18 years and then she was executed by her own Cousin Elisabeth.
