The Starmers' Pay Back £6,000.

Gifts Given to the Starmers'.

By Nicholas BishopPublished about a year ago 3 min read
Sir Keir and Lady Victoria Starmer.

Sir Keir when he was elected this year promised to clean up the mess and sleaze the Tories had left behind. After 14 years of Tory sleaze and corruption many thought and still think, he is the man for the job. To thunderous applause, the Starmers entered Downing Street.

However, as out-going Tory leader Rishi Sunak observed the shine appears to be coming Starmer. Not that I am a fan of Sunak by any means, however, his observance is true. Starmer's pro-Israel stance has put many off him, particularly amongst the Muslim community. Given Lady Victoria Starmer is Jewish and Sir Keir attends Friday night dinners, it is not surprising. Secondly, in the riots that erupted over the summer, Sir Keir was accused (even by Elon Musk) of two-tier policing. The police came down hard on Native Brit (white riots echoing The Clash song) whereas police had a softly, softly, approach to counter protests of the left and the Muslim communities.

Sir Keir before he became Prime Minister said he wanted to clear up mountains of Tory sleaze and corruption. Sir Keir became the Tory sleaze buster and when elected those who lent him their vote expected him to do so. And, like I said, he may do that. That said, it has emerged Mr. Starmer was given gifts including expensive designer glasses, brand-name clothes for Mrs. Starmer, tickets to the races, and tickets to see Taylor Swift, etc. All in all, these gifts bought for the Starmers by others amounted to £6,000.

So with Sir Keir stating he wanted to clear up the Tory mess and corruption the Prime Minister was branded a hypocrite. Of course, no one is whiter than white and we all make mistakes. The Starmers probably didn't think they were doing anything wrong. However, in the cold light of day when Starmer attacked the previous Conservative regime for doing such things, the Starmers were left with egg on their face.

No doubt, Mr. Starmer's advisors must have warned the Prime Minister about this and he may have realized the mistake he made. Maybe, he hoped this wouldn't come out, but who can say that?

Sir Keir has since said having thought about it, he will pay back the gifts he received out of his money. Being caught out or realizing what he said about the Tories must have stung the Prime Minister. £6,000 will be paid back and at least, Mr.Starmer has admitted his fault.

Can one imagine the Prime Minister at a Taylor Swift gig though? One cannot imagine the Prime Minister being a Taylor Swift fan, a "Swiftie". Maybe he was going to take his teenage kids to the gigs. On the other hand, maybe the Starmers as a family are "Swifties". Who am I to second or third-guess the PM's musical taste just because he was a young man in the 80s and 90s?

When you attack others in the public light, you must be very careful that your words do not come back and haunt you. Whether that be politics, the world of sports, acting, music, or whatever. You have to be a saint so that you do not get caught out. But who is a saint? Even the most well-meaning of us are not perfect. It is easy to say people in the public eye should watch what they say or do, however, how different would we be? We live in a society that likes to build people up and then drag them down again. Such is the nature of the world we live in, particularly now with social media and 24-hour and 7-days-week news coverage.
