Trump and Netanyahu: Outside Mar-a-Lago.

Trump and Netanyahu stood like two twins. Both were dressed in blue suits, white shirts, and red ties. They looked like they were entertainment managers at some British holiday camp like Butlins. The chemistry between them seemed warm and jovial as always.

At a press conference, both men fielded questions from reporters. They took questions on several subjects from Ukraine and Gaza to everything in between. Trump did most of the speaking while Netanyahu looked on, beaming from ear to ear like the proverbial Cheshire Cat. Trump was asked about the next phase of his 20-point peace plan, agreed upon by Israel and Hamas. Israel has consistently broken the ceasefire, but Trump didn't mention that. He said Hamas must disarm, and there would be hell to pay if they did not. Trump said he had heard that Iran was rebuilding its nuclear programme and rebuilding its stockpile of missiles. He said, "We are gonna have to knock 'em down again", referring to the US's attack on Iran's nuclear sites by B2 bombers using bunker buster bombs. And, Israel's attacks on Iran's nuclear sites, missile launchers, missiles, and the places that produce them.

Trump was asked whether Turkey would be part of the second phase of his plan, which is to have a security force in Gaza. Trump didn't answer the question directly. He referred to his good relationship with President Tayyip Erdogan and the usual, "we'll see what happens". Since the war between Hamas and Israel, relations between Turkey and Israel have broken down. So the Turkish president is not Bibi's favourite foreign leader right now.

Trump spoke about President Putin's house being allegedly targeted by Ukraine. Apparently, Putin relayed this information when Trump was speaking by telephone to the Russian leader. Trump said attacking Putin's house by Zelenskyy wasn't exactly helpful in the delicate peace talks.

Trump recently entertained Vlodymyr Zelenskyy also at Mar-a-Lago. Their body language and chemistry were much better. One of the other times, the two met at the White House, Trump savaged Zelenskyy over his casual dress. Also, accusing Zelenskyy of playing dangerous games with Putin.

Now that Zelenskyy is on board with the Trump peace plan, Trump and Zelenskyy seem like buddies. Zelenskyy is the loser in this peace plan if it works. Putin has remained steadfast in demanding that the Ukrainian territory that Russia has captured remain captured. And it seems Zelenskyy will have to give up the territory that Russia has captured in any lasting peace deal.

This is Netanyahu's umpteenth visit to see Trump this year. Many are thinking that Netanyahu is planning yet more attacks on Iran. Has he gone to see Trump again to get his blessing for another attack on Iran? Or does Netanyahu have some hold over the US President? Some say Trump is Netanyahu's poodle; however, Trump has pulled up Netanyahu a few times. When Trump had gotten Iran to agree to a ceasefire in the 12-day war, he telephoned Netanyahu from Air Force One to turn his planes around when they were on another mission to bomb Iran. The Israeli planes turned around, and the ceasefire went into effect.

Although Trump said Iran needs to be knocked down again, he never said- when or if this would take place. He never said Israel had his blessing in attacking Iran again, or if the US would be involved again. Trump right now has enough external things going on. His confrontation with the regime of Nicolas Maduro in Venezuela is ongoing. His strikes on alleged Islamic State targets in Nigeria. The ongoing Russia-Ukraine war and his peace plan. Plus, the release of files from those who knew Jeffrey Epstein.

So as we go through to 2026, Trump has a lot on his political plate. Not forgetting, his popularity at home is at an all-time low.
