Best Political Documentaries on Netflix You Can Stream Right Now
Being informed has never been more important than it is right now, especially when you consider how our leaders have begun passing unpopular bills under the cover of darkness. An uninformed electorate is perhaps the greatest threat to our democracy, and the best political documentaries on Netflix can play a role in changing that.

Best Movies About American Politics
It's important for the world of filmmaking to marry with the world of politics. Why? Because it gives a completely different platform to the ideals that are so often spoken about, solely by politicians or news media. This way, consumers can receive the topics that are so relevant to everyone's lives in a new form.

Here’s Looking at Us, Kids
Refugees in frantic, desperate motion. Bellicose leaders bristling with weapons and eager for confrontation. A world driven by conflicts and war. The emerging spectre of Nazis and extremism. We’re talking about the world of 2017, of course. Or are we? The chaos of the world of three generations ago — 1942, to be precise — tragically and capably stands in for our own.

Best Election Themed Movies
Though they aren't really as popular as other genres, election themed movies still are pretty well-liked. Whether it's because of the drama, the dystopian-ism, or just the realistic scripts, there's a lot of reasons why people love watching these movies from time to time.

The Lobbyist As Anti-Hero
There's a line in an early episode of Aaron Sorkin's The West Wing where White House chief of staff Leo McGarry (played by the late John Spencer) tells the staff that "There are two things in the world you never want to let people see how you make 'em: laws and sausages." Yet the process by which a bill becomes law has proven to be rich ground for writers and filmmakers from Advise & Consent to Aaron Sorkin efforts like The American President and the aforementioned West Wing. More recently, filmmaker John Madden has turned to the lobbying efforts that help make bills law for his film Miss Sloane, starring Jessica Chastain in the title role.

The Magnificent Seven or Magnificent Minorities?
Growing up in the seventies and eighties, I remember movies always typically had a majority white cast of characters with maybe one or two minorities and typically the hero of the film. It was typical and predictable for horror films and action movies to almost always have an African American sidekick or hero make it to the end of the movie and killed off in the last 15 or 20 minutes. Gradually movies and television have gone away from that somewhat with African American, Hispanic and Asian lead characters which lead to creating fresh storytelling and new themes with not as predictable plots as in the past.

Must See Movies About Politics
Often when we look at the political theater, it almost seems like the political maneuvers senators and generals pull are facelifted from the latest cinematic political thriller, almost as though real life is following a movie script. Still, Hollywood can't be beaten when it comes to entertaining political madness (as opposed to real life's soul crushing political madness). Cinematic politicians speak with unmatched eloquence, dressed to impress, and don't look like melted ice cream sundaes stuffed into a suit. Politicians in the movies may be sometimes corrupt, but oftentimes they fight for the American ideal. Or other times, we see the man--normal people, outside the political theater--fighting for the American way. That’s what audiences long for: a movie that can be at once thrilling, exciting, and inspiring. The very best political movies leave us breathless, leave us inspired, and leave us with an impression about what this country could be if only the cards fell just into place.

Voter ID Laws Are Disenfranchisement Politics As Usual
Three to five million illegal votes and Jeff Sessions our new attorney general, the voter fraud issue is going on full alert in the Trump Administration. But the concern amounts to nothing more than the Republicans taking out their playbook and putting disenfranchising politics in full gear. Their constituency eager to engage and vilify, historical facts demonstrate that political parties do not steal elections by getting random people to vote twice.

Best Political Films Ever Made
Political films help us to comprehend the often murky world of politics. We are all obsessed with politics, but we don’t always understand them. George Orwell said that political language is designed to make lies sound truthful. Is it any wonder that we get lost among the rhetoric sometimes? Political cinema gives us a sneak peek behind the scenes. The scandals, the damage control, the back room deals, the campaign trail, the idealists, the spin-doctors, and everything else we love and love to hate about politics. Get informed by watching this great selection of political films.
