Runners and Riders to Replace Wishy-Washy-Rishi.

121 Tory MPs Left.

By Nicholas BishopPublished 2 years ago 3 min read
Conservatives Have Hit A Wall.

The Conservative Party is reeling from the cataclysmic loss it suffered in the UK general election. Many 'Big Beasts' as the media likes to call them have lost their seats. Liz Truss, former Prime Minister has been ousted, likewise, Jacob Rees-Mogg is an MP, no more. Grant Shapps has also lost His seat. Penny Mordaunt who was tipped to replace Rishi Sunak has also been voted out of office. The massive 80% majority Bojo Johnson (the clown) won in 2019 has evaporated like vapour. The amount of Tory MPs left is 121, even worse than their wipeout in 1997 when Tony Blair came to power.

Similarly, in Scotland, the SNP has suffered a massive hit. It seems many Scots have fallen out of love with independence. John Swinney the SNP leader like the Tories in England has much soul-searching to do. They have around 9 MPs in Westminister, way down from the numbers they had. Thanks largely to the clowning around of Ed Davey putting himself out there, the Lib-Dems have attained a respectable 72 MPs. The Greens have achieved 4 seats thanks to their female joint leader winning in Bristol. Farage and Reform UK have got four seats. Farage after trying 8 times to be an MP secured a seat in Clacton. Farage wants to campaign against the 'First Past The Post System' and replace it with a more proportional system. Smaller parties like the Greens and Reform would be better represented under a fairer system. George Galloway and His Workers Party of Britain for all of Galloway's bluff and bluster was ousted from His Rochdale seat. Labour took back the Rochdale seat from him.

Rishi Sunak has vowed to remain as party leader until the process of selecting His successor is in place. Let's look at some of those who are tipped to replace him:

Kemi Badenoch.

Suella Braverman.

James Cleverly.

Priti Patel.

Tom Tugendhat.

Victoria Adams.

Robert Jenrick.

Kemi Badenoch, Suella Braverman, and Priti Patel are the darlings of the right of the Conservative Party (opponents of these women say far-right). Robert Jenrick, James Cleverly, and Victoria Adams are seen as more moderate.

Many Tories knew that they would lose and lose big. And yet, they campaigned to be re-elected. Not to be the government because the polls were predicting an extinction event for the Conservatives on 4 July. Some polls even said the Conservatives would leave between 38 - 50-150 MPs. However, the Conservatives did suffer a catastrophic night but an extinction-level event it wasn't. Now with 121 MPs, the Tories must pick themselves up, dust themselves off, and start all over again, quoting the old Nat King Cole song.

Sunak gave a speech outside No 10, His resignation speech. Flanked by Mrs. Sunak/Ashkata Murty. Her dress was a sight to behold, looking like a cross between a Tesco bag and a Newcastle football shirt. She looked serious and not sympathetic/empathetic to the plight of her defeated husband. The pair then strolled away hand in hand but their two daughters were nowhere to be seen. When compared to Gordon Brown's resignation speech and the subsequent walking away from No 10 forever. Brown walked away with His wife and two children in 2010 when David 'Call Me Dave' Cameron and His Lib-Dem side Nick Clegg came to power. The Sunaks probably didn't want their kids in the public eye and that's understandable. Many predicted that Sunak would lose his seat in Yorkshire, however, he kept it.

People, even many Tory supporters had enough of 14 years of dysfunction. Broken promises, cutbacks, and endless misdemeanours brought the Conservatives down. Sir Keir Starmer has been given a massive mandate. The new Prime Minister seems to have hit the ground running, appointing His new cabinet immediately. Sir Keir has 5 years to turn the nation around, I wish him all the best, he'll need it!
