Elon Musk, the richest man on Planet Earth, is a phenomenon. He is someone you admire and wish to aspire to be. Or, he is someone you loathe and think the man and his machinations are not for the good.
Musk is South African by birth a man of Dutch and English descent. He was for a while a Canadian before becoming an American citizen. Musk has an obsession with Mars. Wishing to establish a human colony within his lifetime. Some have questioned his origins. Some think he is a Martian (I kid you not!). Musk is like the alien in 'The Man Who Fell To Earth' played by David Bowie. An alien who came to Earth to save his dying planet by using Earth's resources to get back home and save his world.
Others think he is the AntiChrist. How could a man accumulate so much wealth? How could a man own and operate so many companies? A man who has bought Twitter now X and uses this platform to espouse his views. If you believe we are in the end times, Musk fits the bill as the villain and enemy of Christ.
On the other hand, those who support or admire Musk, think he is a good thing. All of his innovations are revolutionary and he employs thousands of people. Some see him as a man who dares to dream and challenge society as it is today. There is something defo Punk about Musk. The man is a maverick and is not afraid to challenge social norms. How much of what he does or says benefits him? Opponents will say it's all about him when you look at the vast wealth he has acquired.
Politically Musk was left wing but he has undergone a metamorphosis. It seems Kamala Harris turned Musk off the Democrats. I don't think Musk was impressed by Joe Biden either. Given Harris' policies on LGBTQ and trans-gender (of course, these were not the only issues) Musk was turned off. He switched his allegiance to Trump and Trump won the election (That's not to say Musk's switching sides helped Trump win).
In Trump, he saw a reflection of himself as another maverick, another controversial figure and like Musk, unpredictable. Whether you could call Trump innovative I doubt that. Does he inspire people like Musk? Well, something happened between him and the electorate. To give the 'orange one' his second and final tenure as President. Similar to Musk, Trump is someone you love or hate and there is no in-between. Musk has been given a job in Trump's incoming cabinet.
Musk runs Space X, Tesla, Starlink, the Boring Company, Neuralink, and Open AI. Not forgetting as mentioned he is now the owner of X formerly known as Twitter. From there he regularly posts his opinions. Some of these opinions tend to be seen as interference in other country's politics. For example, his continuing spat with Sir Keir Starmer. Most notably in the riots last year and people's opinions on social media supporting the reason or perceived reasons for last year's riots. When people were arrested for rioting or expressing pro-active and supportive opinions on social media about the reason for the riots. Musk accused Starmer of being a "Two-Tier Kier" for imprisoning such people. Allowing soft policing on the counter-demonstrations to the riots.
Lately, Musk has fallen out with Nigel Farage. Mr. Musk accused Farage as not having what it takes to be the leader Reform need. Farage having met the billionaire was hoping for a large donation into Reform's coffers. This won't be happening now! Will Musk's takedown of Farage affect his popularity as Reform soar (like it or not in the polls)? It could very well do! However, Farage is a survivor whatever you think of him. Musk's rantings about Farage could elevate his popularity. Many of Farage's supporters will not like Musk interfering in internal British politics. Just as many Labour and Starmer supporters will not like his spat with Starmer.
Musk supports the German equivalent of Reform UK, the AFD. There is a general election in Germany and Musk will be waxing lyrical supporting this controversial party. Musk has a good relationship with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni another right-wing figure. He has a friendship with Marine Le Pen and her right-wing Rally Party too.
Musk has a penchant for supporting populist parties on the right. He adovocates the freeing of Tommy Robinson. Who some see as a white Mandela (I kid you not). Musk describes Robinson as a political prisoner. According to British law at least, he is behind bars because of contempt of court. Nigel Farage has distanced himself from Robinson though both are figures on the right. Robinson's views are too extreme even for Farage. This is why Farage and Musk have fallen out.
As Musk is a foreign-born American he cannot like another famous foreign figure be President. I speak of Austrian-born Arnold Schwarzenegger. Failing that Musk seems content with using his power on X to espouse his views.
Will Musk button it when he becomes an official minister in Trump's cabinet? In normal circumstances for sure. However, with Trump at the helm, the only certainty on that and other things is the uncertainty!
