Musk and Corbyn: New Politics.

The Billionaire Martian and The Veteran Leftie.

Burning Down The Old Politics?

What do Elon Musk and Jeremy Corbyn have in common? Well, you would think nothing. In their views, they are opposed to one another in their view of how society should be. One is the ultimate capitalist billionaire business owner of SpaceX, Tesla, etc, who dipped his toe into politics. Who funded Donald Trump and helped him become POTUS? However, after working for DT, for DOGE, Trump and Musk fell out big time. Now the would-be Martian (maybe he is?) is founding a new political party, 'The America Party'. The motto of this new party is "Giving you your freedom back". Freedom from what? Freedom from the one-man band Trump is? Is the America Party just a vanity project from Musk? Just to overcome another vanity project, Captained by Donald John Trump?

Is there room in the US for a third political party? A country that has been dominated by two political parties, the Democrats and the Republicans. Others have tried to set up other political parties, like Ross Perot. However, all attempts up until now have failed. What makes Musk any different from those who have gone before him?

In the UK, Zarah Sultana MP said she was founding a new political party. She announced having left Labour, she was co-forming and co-leading the party with Jeremy Corbyn. JC was shocked at the announcement at first. Mr. Corbyn wasn't ready for the fact that they were forming a new political party to be announced. However, later on, Mr. Corbyn clarified that quote: "Talks are ongoing". Also, he said: "Our country needs change"!

Corbyn was the leader of the Labour Party and came within an inch of victory against embattled Prime Minister Theresa May. However, Corbyn was beaten by Bojo the Clown in the 2019 general election. Corbyn is no longer in the Labour Party; he is sitting as an independent MP. Now, with Corbyn in the process of forming a new party, some see it as the second coming of the left-wing messiah.

The UK, like the US, has always been a two-party system. Labour and Tories have always dominated the system. However, there are other parties. The one party right now that has swept all before it is Nigel Farage's Reform UK. Could Corbyn's unnamed new party do the same for those on the left?

Both Musk and Corbyn are mavericks. Corbyn has been a Labour Party member and MP, and before that, a trade union person for most of his life. He has always been a thorn in the side of the Labour right or middle. A person committed to peace, to banning the bomb, for a fairer society for people. Corbyn has never towed the party line, and for a while, He and those who followed him dominated the Labour Party. Now with this second chance at being a major force in politics again, where will this journey take Mr. Corbyn?

South African-born Elon Musk has been a maverick in the businesses he has set up. Whether it be Tesla, SpaceX, his satellite network and other ideas, he has seen success in everything he has done. Musk has an obsession with Mars. You may have seen his t-shirts, sweatshirts, caps, etc, "Occupy Mars"! The richest man on the Planet wants to establish a colony on Mars. Whether this will come to pass will remain to be seen.

As I said earlier, Musk dipped his toe into politics. Funding Trump's campaign, which most certainly helped the 'Orange one" into power and back into the White House. Musk was a moderate leftie himself. However, whether it was Trump or what, Musk is now a figure on the right, some would say far right. He is not afraid of posting his views on X, formerly Twitter, the social media company he acquired. Musk served for a while in the DOGE in Trump's government. A department that was set up to balance the books and cut out wasteful and unnecessary spending on causes Trump felt weren't worth it.

However, Trump and Musk are now sworn enemies, falling out over how Trump was taxing people.

So again, both Musk and Corbyn are mavericks. Their personas have carried them through their lives because they refused to go along with the norm. Both men loathe each other, but scratch beneath the surface, and they probably have more in common than they realise.
