Mhairi Black: Standing Down At General Election.

Toxic Environment At Westminister.

Mhairi Black and Friends.

SNP Deputy Leader at Westminister, Mhairi Black, is stepping down at the next general election. After only 6 months on the job, Ms. Black has apparently had enough of being the MP for Paisley and Renfrewshire South.

She was elected at just 20 years old, halfway, through her time in university. She has been a member of parliament for 10 years. Ms. Black has described parliament as "One of the most unhealthy places you could work in". And that, she was "tired" of "the toxic environment" she found herself in.

Ms. Black said she didn't regret a single second of being an MP. It gave her the chance to fight for what she believed in. But because of the "toxic environment", she feels she has to step back. She said she understood how people could be sucked into the place. But for her, she found it an "alien place" she was still not used to.

Ms. Black has held various portfolios whilst serving as an SNP MP at Westminister. She rose through the ranks quickly and became a member of the SNP shadow cabinet at Westminister. When Stephen Flynn became Leader of the SNP in Westminister Mhairi Black became His Deputy. She soon established, herself, alongside Mr. Flynn, as a no-nonsense politician. Holding the government to account not only for Scotland but for all people of the UK.

But she has time to go yet. She will hand in her notice at the next general election: May 2024. At Prime Minister's Questions, deputy leaders had to stand in for their leaders. Oliver Dowden for Rishi Sunak, Angela Rayner for Keir Starmer and Mhairi Black for Stephen Flynn. Oliver Dowden said he was sad to see Ms. Black go as they both entered parliament at the same time. Ms. Black said she was flattered by Mr. Dowden's remarks, however, she said he would be leaving parliament at the same time as her. Meaning when she steps down at the next general election, Oliver Dowden, would lose his seat. It is thought, by many pundits, that the Tories (Conservatives) are on track for a massive defeat in May 2024.

Ms. Black's party Leader in Scotland, one Humza Yousuf, has inherited a poison chalice from His former boss: Nicola Sturgeon. Yousaf finds himself, embroiled in the antics of the former Sturgeon regime. Missing money from when Ms. Sturgeon served as First Minister of Scotland. It is thought that Yousaf, as with the Tories in England, might get kicked out of office. And, probably, deservedly so. Humza Yousaf as the Scottish government's Health Minister did little to improve the lot of the Scottish NHS.

While Yousaf has supporters in the SNP, many do not like or trust, the new First Minister. When Sturgeon stepped down there was a vote for a new leader as is custom in such things. Many SNP voters wanted a break from the Sturgeon years and what they got was a 'Sturgeonite'.

Humza Yousaf was a follower (and still is) of Nicola Sturgeon. Her mass obsession was and is to free Scotland from the UK. This remains Yousaf's dream too. Humza has said he wants next year's general election to be a referendum on Scottish independence. However, if the SNP lose power that will be the referendum they do not want.

The SNP lost the first referendum in 2014 on Scottish Independence. And when the UK voted to leave the EU, this spurred her on, for another referendum. Most people in Scotland voted to remain in the European Union.

Whereas, many in England and Wales, voted, to leave. Therefore, Ms. Sturgeon felt Scotland was being dragged 'kicking and screaming' out of the EU. A second referendum was turned down by the Tory government in Westminister.
