Lana Del Rey and White Clumsiness. Top Story - May 2020.
I will start by saying that I absolutely love Lana. Discovering her discography in high school truly felt like an enlightenment, and her album Ultraviolence is, to this day, one of my favorite albums of all time. However, miss Lana dropped the ball a few days ago, severely. In an attempt to confront her critics and haters, she, in the eyes of many people, shaded a handful of female artists who are either Black, part Black, part of an ethnic minority or… Ariana Grande. Open Immigration.
In 1492 Christofer Columbus “ discovered” what he called “The new world”, in other words Christofer Columbus immigrated to what is now the united states and claimed the land for Spain taking this land from the Native Americans. Nowadays people immigrate to the United States not to take something away from the people that live here but to find a better life, that they can not get in their countries. These people struggle even harder when they are not accepted but discriminated against and humiliated. Open immigration might scare some citizens because they think that immigrant people just come to this country to take and not to give. Agriculture, health care and technology are areas where immigrants have been beneficial.

The Crux of Language
Language and correctness not only obstruct our relationships and how we communicate but has already shaped our future. Do we really want a future where sympathy doesn’t count! “Why “illegal immigrant” is a slur” by Charles Garcia, “Why you shouldn’t be politically correct” by Anna Munsey-Kano and “Do you think the poor are lazy” by Anat Shenker-Osorio. The authors reflect on how political correctness, language and brought up words affect our society.
