Johnny Mercer Calls Young Labour MP An "Inbetweener"
Young Labour MP Wins in Selby.

Labour failed to win Boris' old seat and return a Labour MP to Parliament. Labour has engaged in a lot of naval gazing as to why they didn't win the seat. However, Labour should not beat itself up too much. The Conservative retention of the Uxbridge seat was won very narrowly. In other times, the Conservatives would have walked it. Instead, they just about held Boris' old seat. So Labour came within a whisker of grabbing the seat from the Tories.
One reason, that Labour, didn't win the seat could be because of Sadiq Khan's ULEZ zones. These zones prevent motorists with inefficient polluting vehicles from parking or driving in areas meant to cut carbon monoxide emissions. If they choose to enter these 'Ultra Low Emission Zones' there is a charge. It is understandable, why London Mayor, Sadiq Khan has introduced these zones. Carbon monoxide is a greenhouse gas contributing to climate change and global warming. Of course, other scientists will argue the planet warming up is just a natural process. Global cooling and global warming is a factor in our planet's history. And they may have a point, however, it cannot be denied that human activity on Earth has added to the warming of our world. Look at the odd weather we have had in the UK or the fires in Rhodes, Greece.
On the other hand, many say these 'ULEZ' areas are unpopular with motorists. Particularly, with poorer motorists who cannot afford more environmentally friendly vehicles. So they are stuck with let's face it 'old bangers'. These vehicles may be old and polluting but it's all these people can afford. To just about keep their old vehicle on the road. Yes, there is public transport so why are these motorists not using it? Is it the price of public transport like trains, tubes, and buses?
Sir Keir did more or less say that Labour didn't gain Uxbridge which is in London because of these 'ULEZ' zones. Sir Keir seems to be blaming Khan's ULEZ areas for not winning the Uxbridge seat. Nevertheless, popular or not, Khan is going to press on with this policy. Khan will be facing an election himself soon. As to whether the ULEZ policy will lose him the election to continue as London Mayor remains to be seen.
Sadiq Khan is not the only Mayor to introduce parking charges and create low/non-existent pollution levels. Andy Burnham has more or less done the same in Manchester.
Tory MP for Military Veterans, Johnny Mercer, has called the new Labour MP for Selby, Keir Mather, an "Inbetweener". Keir Mather is 20 years old and is one of if not the youngest MP elected to parliament. Mercer chose to attack Keir Mather for his young age. The 'Inbetweeners' slur refers to the programme of nerdy lads from the hit comedy that spawned a movie of the same name. Keir Mather could take this attack two ways. One is that he could take it as an attack on his young age and inexperience. Or, he could take it well. Being compared to a famous tv programme. He could regard it as a compliment. After all nerdy people are usually highly intelligent people.
Labour overturned a stonking Tory majority in Selby. Which perhaps is compensation for not winning Uxbridge. Returning Keir Mather to parliament as Labour MP for the area. In the footsteps of SNP MP and Deputy SNP Leader at Westminister Mhairi Black. Ms. Black was one of the youngest MPs elected to Westminister. Now after fighting for Scotland and indeed, the rest of the UK, she is stepping down at the next general election. Siting the fact that you can easily get sucked into the culture at Westminister and sell out. Ms. Black said this is the reason she is quitting.
Pundits say Rishi Sunak could still turn around his unpopularity with the public. However, he will have a hard job doing so. If the 3 by-elections are evidence of voting intention at a next year's general election, Wishy-Washy would be out of office. So the Tories narrowly retained Uxbridge, Labour won in Selby and the Lib-Dems secured Somerton and Frome.
