David Lammy: Will Work With Trump.
British Foreign Secretary David Lammy.

David Lammy once called Donald Trump a "Neo-Nazi-sociopath". That was back in 2018 when the Tottenham MP was an outspoken backbencher. As Foreign Secretary in the new Labour government, Mr. Lammy has sought to temper his comments. Mr. Lammy has made it clear that he will work with whoever the American populace elects in November including Trump.
Mr. Lammy's statement in 2018 about the once and future President (maybe) was thus: "Trump is not only a woman-hating neo nazi sympathising sociopath he is also a profound threat to the international order that has been the foundation of Western progress for so long".
Mr. Lammy admitted he has mixed with American politicians both Democrat and Republican. Asked by Sky News about his previous comments about Trump Lammy replied "You are going to struggle to find any politician who didn't have things to say about Donald Trump back in the day".
Lammy has met Trump's running mate and potential vice president J D Vance. Lammy said he and Vance have found "common ground". Mr Lammy went on: "We're both from poor backgrounds, both suffered addiction in the family which we've written about. And now I've met him on a few occasions and we have both been able to find common ground". Mr. Lammy noted that both are Christians and that is also common ground.
Mr. Trump chose J D Vance after the attempted assassination attempt. Mr. Trump got away with a bullet that grazed his ear. The gunman was taken out by security personnel. The security setup and how the gunman was able to get so close to Trump is under investigation. Piers Morgan not wishing to be a conspiracy theorist said the circumstances were very odd.
J D Vance was a former venture capitalist and senator. At the Conservatism Conference in Washington DC, J D Vance made controversial remarks about the UK. Mr. Vance called the UK the first 'Islamist nation with nuclear weapons". Why would Mr. Vance say that? Does he think that under Labour Islamism will grow and prosper?
Responding to Vance's comments, Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner said she did not "recognise that characterization". Defence Secretary John Healey said "nobody in Britain would recognise that".
Many have compared the rise of Keir Starmer to the days of Tony Blair. At that time, the US had a Republican government under President George W. Bush. Many thought that Bush and Blair would not get on. However, both seemed to be great friends from the start. The special relationship between the UK and the US blossomed.
However, when Bush chose to invade Iraq on the back of the 9/11 attack, Blair supported Bush in invading Afghanistan, this is where it all went wrong. The excuse for the invasion was that Iraq had connections to Al-Qaeda who were purportedly behind the twin tower attack. Also, Iraq had WMD (Weapons of Mass Destruction) and was ready to use them. Of course, all this turned out to be lies and nonsense. Saddam, was a bad man, however, ironically his regime kept people like Al-Qaeda and IS down.
As soon as the moustachioed dictator was removed terrorist groups like the ones mentioned became a real and present danger, as the US, UK, and other Allied occupation forces in Iraq, found out. The taking down of Saddam was a good thing, however, the Middle East has been a cauldron of trouble ever since.
Streams of Middle Easterners heading for the West, Iran becoming a stronger nation projecting its power across the area, Israel has become a quasi if not a fascist state, Iraq independent now is making slow progress. However, the nation is stuck in a vice-like grip between the US and Iran.
Sir Keir, Lammy, and all members of the Labour government must work with whoever the American electorate put into the White House. Let us hope that if Trump is in the White House a Republican President (as Bush was during Blair's time in power) history does not repeat itself and the UK with the US does not end up in a foreign war under false pretences. Likewise, though, that could also happen if Biden is re-elected.
