Christian Nationalism: Is It A Threat?
Surge of Far-Right So-Called Christian Nationalists.

When the Taliban took power last year many far-right so-called Christian Nationalists celebrated. Just like their Islamic Brethren in Afghanistan, these American fanatics love beards and guns. They think that maybe a similar thing can happen in America where the US will be ruled by a Christian Theocracy. Just like in Afghanistan, where the Taliban enforce an extreme form of Sharia, they want the US ruled by the Bible.
What is the ideology of Christian Nationalism? Well, they want to turn the clock back to a rosy, apple-pie image, of how they thought the US was. Being Gay is wrong, only two genders exist, restricted immigration and people of colour should know their place. Also, interracial relationships and marriages are a sin against God. Many also support Israel believing the formation of the Jewish state and its continued existence is a sign of the Second Coming of Christ.
Many are Donald Trump supporters and pro-Republican. Half of the Republican Party it is thought are sympathetic to these ideas. The Republican Party of the US has been largely hijacked by this movement and its beliefs. How really Christian these people are though is open to question. Many hide behind the symbology of Christianity and are far on the right politically. Many who took part in the January 6 insurrection carried both Christian and Nazi placards. Many in this movement may not necessarily be extremists but are just concerned about how the US is changing. However, the figure of Jesus of what He represented/represents is a million miles away from the fascist part of this movement. Indeed, some see Christ's message as more socialist and of the left. Loving everyone and accepting people just as they are.
Christian Nationalism has been around for a while. It is only during the reign of Donald Trump that it found mainstream support. Is this movement a reaction to the 'Woke' movement that seems to dominate our society right now? I think it is definitely a possibility. Black Lives Matter, LGBTQ+, the rewriting of history, cancel culture, etc, an extremist ideology may have empowered the so-called movement of Christian Nationalism. Every action, so they say, has a reaction and this seems to be the case here.
The US is now a polarised place both politically and religiously perhaps. In fact, if you look at Europe and other places in the world, far-right movements are popping up. As a reaction, no doubt, as in the US to the Woke movement.
Extremism of one sort or another, be it religious, political, or whatever, is rampant. Even the Tories under Rishi Sunak are trying to court the anti-Woke amongst us. Sunak says he knows what a woman is or trying to stop the boats (referring to the migrants crossing the English Channel). You have the AFD in Germany, Marine Le Pen will be boosted politically after the riots by Muslims in France, Giorga Meloni in Italy, and look at Hungary's regime under Victor Oban.
It is more than likely, that Trump will return to the White House. Despite all the things happening to him negatively it doesn't seem to have turned his supporters off. If anything, his supporters stand with him and his popularity is growing. So the chance of Trump returning to the White House, like it or not, could be a reality. If not Trump, then someone like Ron De Santis could be the candidate to be the next 'POTUS' (President of The United States).
Can you imagine a scenario where Starmer in the UK, becomes Prime Minister, in the UK general election, in May 2024? Where Sir Keir will have to get on with or at least have a working relationship with someone like Trump or DeSantis (if either becomes President).
