Wanna be Winston Churchill now living life as a private citizen Boris Johnson, has been waxing lyrical about Vladimir Putin. Calling the Russian President a "fucking idiot". Saying Putin needs to realize that the age of empires is over. Speaking to an Indian outlet Delfi Johnson spoke about the end of the British Empire. India where Boris was interviewed was once part of the British Empire ironically.
Boris was known for backing Ukraine in its war with Russia. No doubt, when Putin invaded Ukraine, Boris as Prime Minister, in 2022 probably thought his "finest hour" (Boris being an admirer of Winston Churchill) had come. In Boris's mind, he probably thought the Russian invasion of Ukraine was akin to Germany's invasion of Poland in 1940. Seeing Vlad The Invader (instead of Vlad The Impaler) as a new Hitler. And himself, as this century's answer to Churchill. However, Boris fell from power and was superseded by Rishi Sunak. Sunak remained as Prime Minister carrying on Boris's work of backing Ukraine. Sunak and Zelenskyy seemed to hit it off straight away. There was a genuine bromance between the Jewish leader of Ukraine and the Hindu Prime Minister of Britain.
In 2024 Sunak was kicked out of office by the British electorate. Sir Keir Starmer took over and has continued his predecessor's backing of Ukraine. However, with Trump coming to power this month Starmer may have to rethink his relationship with Zelenskyy. Trump has made no bones about the fact he wants the war between Ukraine and Russia over. Even if that means Ukraine has to give up its goal of recapturing territory captured by Russia. The writing is on the wall for Zelenskyy and he knows it.
Boris continuing his theme that the age of imperialism was over said, "It's over. Over. Over. No more empire Vladimir you fucking idiot - excuse my language - okay"? Boris also spoke about Vlad's desire to rule Lithuania, Lativa, Estonia, and Ukraine. Repeating the age of imperial powers had passed.
Meanwhile, on the battlefield, Russia has claimed to have taken two villages in Ukraine. Russia has slowly been making progress and the war is turning against Ukraine. The Ukrainian Air Force said Russia fired 94 drones at Ukraine. The Ukrainian Air Force said it shot down two-thirds of these projectiles.
North Korea has been supplying vast amounts of artillery shells to Russia. Also, North Korea joined Russia in its war with Ukraine. Allegedly, sending 10,000 regular troops to fight in Ukraine. Vlodymir Zelenskyy says his forces have captured two North Korean soldiers. The Ukrainian President said the NK soldiers were being treated well in captivity. He said, the media would get to question the two North Koreans. Kim Jong-un has invasion plans of his own to take South Korea. Whether Kim would take up such adventurism remains to be seen.
Russia's Allies Iran and China have been backing Vlad's invasion of Ukraine. Iran openly sent suicide drones to the Russian armed forces. These drones have been used indiscriminately on Ukrainian targets. Not just on military targets but on civilian targets too. China has cautiously backed Russia's war effort. However, the Chinese have condemned Putin's statements threatening to use nukes.
Trump has been acting all imperious himself. Threatening to coerce Denmark into giving up Greenland. Threatening to use military force. Trump has also threatened Mexico to send troops in to battle the drug cartels. Trump has the Panama Canal in his sights. And, mad as it sounds, even threatening to incorporate Canada as the 51st state of the US. Seriously, you couldn't make this stuff up! Even madder, Trump wants to rename the Gulf of Mexico, the Gulf of America! Whether Trump will carry out this American expansionism remains to be seen.
As for Bojo, the clown had he not been such a liar, flippant over serious things or a fantasist, things might have worked out differently for him. However, Boris is where he is today and that as they say is history.
