The world is burning, before it was a slow burn but now it’s an inferno. We’ve reached a moment in American society where there doesn’t seem to be an organization or movement that is truly for the downtrodden. We are in a weird position where minorities and those on the fringes of society have more rights than years past, but aren’t quite prospering or equal to everyone else. Some days it feels like there will never be an inclusive functioning society. As the saying goes, “the rich get richer and the poor get poorer”. Our laws were written to keep out others and lift up the powerful. We need to get rid of old rules that no longer serve us. We need to enact change, but we have been cornered by the laws that hold our country together.
Our eyes have been opened to the world around us but we have no power to change the world. We are told to vote. We are told to support independent brands. We are told to give money to good organizations. We are told to recycle. All while we are being told what to do, those in power continue to waste resources and gain money.
The amount of false information spread by our social media, feeds into this strange reality. As consumers of the news we don’t know what channel to trust or what source to take from. Capitalism has ruined what little trust we have in each other. All the while our police are militarized and shooting children. Then there’s a group who say the children deserved it. When our most vulnerable get sick and die our leaders say it’s not real. One thing for certain is, America isn’t working anymore… if it ever had been working. Our government doesn’t function for the people, but for the dollar. We don’t look out for one another. We blame each other for the atrocities around us, instead of fixing them. So what can we do?
Personally, I’m exhausted. I’m sick of trying to convince people to do the right thing. I’m tired of expecting basic common decency and receiving no respect. I’m done talking to people who just want to argue. I’m going to say my piece and not engage in ridiculous counterarguments. If you don’t care about our planet or the people around you, I don’t have time for you. I’m all for discourse that forwards understanding, but if you think you are better than everyone else and that our planet is your personal dump… I’m done. I can’t even imagine what it feels like to be a minority during this time. It’s very apparent that America doesn’t care about its disabled, sick, POC, or poor.
It’s insane to me that people vote for politicians who have no interest in helping their voters. If you institute people who don’t believe in a functioning government, what are you doing? If your job is a government position and you don’t like the government, why are you a politician? If you don’t have love for your country and its people, why are you trying to lead it? I think we have forgotten that our government is there to lead us into a better future, and better futures are built by helping each other. We should be voting for people who hold the country’s best interest, not the few who are the loudest. It feels like whoever screams the most gets the attention, when it should be a little more logical than that. We’ve been allowing the whiners and narcissists to run our country, it’s about time we said enough. Vote for those who will enact change for the good of the people, not the few. Our last election cycle brought so many new faces, and I say we need more. Our government needs to get rid of those who control it and we need new faces who will bring us into a brighter and better future.
