Agreement Between Germany and The UK.

Migrants and Their Smugglers.

By Nicholas BishopPublished about a year ago 3 min read
Home Secretary: Yvette Cooper.

Since the Labour government came to power on July 4, 20,000 people have arrived in the UK. Some say it's more like 20,110 either way, there's not much in it. Labour has committed to bringing down the migrant crossing. Also, making an impact on tackling the people traffickers. Labour will or has set up a so-called 'Boarder Command'. This force will cooperate with the National Crime Agency, and other groups to achieve this.

In PMQs last Wednesday Sir Keir remarked many illegal migrants had been flown out already. Sir Keir mocked the Conservative's Rwanda scheme. The Tories fiddled over the Rwanda scheme. Now Labour has gotten flights off the ground. These flights are carrying illegals presumably back to where they came from.

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said she works with European counterparts to tackle this crisis. Ms. Cooper signed into law with her German equivalent Nancy Faesar a cooperative plan. For Germany and the UK to tackle migrants. Not only migrants of course, but those who exploit them. Already this year 70 or more people have lost their lives in the channel. So, Germany now has the power to stop migrants from leaving Germany for the UK. It is now an offence for people smugglers to engage in sending migrants to the UK.

The Calais Group will hold a meeting to discuss the migrant problem. This will include the UK, Germany, Belgium, and other European countries. Europol will be there together with the European Commission and its agencies. It is important to tackle and stop migrants from crossing in flimsy boats. Thus ending and cutting down deaths and sinkings in the channel. The criminals must be brought to book. Yes, there will always be criminals ready to use unfortunates to exploit them. However, the fact that the UK and others are doing something about this may deter some migrants. It may not stop the people smuggling gangs altogether but it may become less lucrative for them.

Many coming to Europe are from the Middle East. Fleeing wars and other disasters some of them caused by the West and Israel. Look at the recent and ongoing catastrophic wars in the Middle East. Examples like this are why people flee.

With the overthrow of Assad in Syria many Syrians who have fled to the West will be thinking of going home. Syrians fled the war between rebels on one side and Assad on the other. Hezbollah who backed Assad has taken a beating from Israel.

Since the ceasefire, Hezbollah is licking its wounds. Hezbollah cannot or could not intervene to help Assad while it was fighting Israel. Russia was and is bogged down in Ukraine so it could not help Assad. Iran has been hesitant since Israel and the US struck its assets in Syria. So, with Assad's backers weakened or sidetracked the rebels made their move. From their strongpoint in Idlib, they advanced across Syria.

They faced little or no resistance from the Syrian armed forces. Hezbollah, Iran, or Russia, could do little to stop them for the reasons outlined. In no time at all, the rebels had walked into Damascus. This reminds me of the Taliban and how they took back Afghanistan when the Americans and NATO pulled out.

There is a lesson here, if the Syrian rebels are genuine and have truly renounced their AQ or IS links this could be the way forward. If they can form a genuine peaceful government with the Syrian caretaker government, the Christians, the Kurds, and other groups many Syrians will want to return home. So, if there are genuinely stable governments in the countries where many migrants have fled many will go home. Many will not even consider leaving.
