"Why can't I pay with this?!" The hooded guy at the counter exclaimed at the cashier. The manager came out running with a phone by his ears, threatening to call the police if he continued to cause a ruckus. Heh. As if the Gods were helping me, I knew I had to act quickly, as the attention was at the counter. Four years ago if you had asked me: 'Anna, shut that computer down and tell me what Bitcoin is', I would have blinked at you stupidly. Now? I know Bitcoin is worth more than gold. Back then I hadn't dipped my toe into the world of investments and couldn't care less if the market rose or fell. I worked at a small market as a cashier and was paid minimum wage. I was only half-awake on my shifts and when I got home it was all I could do not to fall on my bed and sleep like there was no tomorrow. I thought Bitcoin was only for rich or some country's currency.

Cars and trucks lined the parking lot of the local watering hole. Every Friday night, white collars, blue collars and no collars gathered to shrug off another week of stress and ring in the weekend. Some threw darts; others chalked cue sticks and played 9-ball. Ciera chose a corner booth situated in the shadows cast by a neon advertising sign dangling over the nearest pool table. She reached into the inside of her denim jacket and retrieved a little black notebook. Ciera gingerly opened the notebook worn with age. The first line grabbed her attention, "My Encounter with Aliens in 1942."
