Introducing Full Edit, Revert to Draft, and Delete for Your Stories

New features for managing your stories on Vocal

By Justin @ VocalPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 2 min read

We’ve been hard at work behind the scenes, and we’re excited to finally ship a product update that the community (and creator support team) have been looking forward to.

Here’s what’s new...

Quick Edit ➡️ Full Edit

We know that flexibility is everything when it comes to fine tuning your stories, so we’ve upgraded Quick Edit to the next level. As a Vocal+ member, you now have full control. Beyond making small tweaks, you can edit your story's title, subtitle, and featured media. Additionally, you can now change the community your story is published in or add content warnings and AI disclosures after your story has been published.

But remember, with this new level of freedom comes the responsibility to maintain the integrity of the platform. We’ll be monitoring to ensure these features are used as intended—so no moving a travel story from Wander into the Poets community.

Keep in mind that if you change the title or community of your story, the URL will also change. This means any links you’ve shared previously will no longer work, so you’ll need to update or reshare your links with the new URL.

Reverting to Draft

You know that feeling when you publish something, but maybe it felt a bit rushed or like you needed more time? Now, whether you’re a free or Vocal+ member, you can revert your published stories back to drafts anytime. This gives you the freedom to fine-tune your work without the pressure of it being live.

Deleting Stories

As a creator, your journey is always evolving, and sometimes that means letting go of past stories that no longer fit your vibe. Now, you have the ability to delete stories directly from your account whenever you feel it’s the right time.

Note: This action is permanent. Once you delete your story, it’s gone for good, and not even our support team can bring it back. If you’re unsure, you can always revert your story to a draft instead and come back to it later.

Additionally, any read earnings your story accumulated will remain in your account, even after the story is deleted. So, while the story itself may be gone, your earnings will still be available.

Challenge Winners & Edits

To our creators who have won or placed in Challenges, your achievement is a testament to your hard work and creativity. To maintain the integrity of our Challenge ecosystem, stories that have placed cannot be edited.

It wouldn’t be fair for others to see a winning story that has been changed after the fact. We believe your original work should be celebrated exactly as it was when you earned your award. While you can delete your Challenge-winning story if you choose, we encourage you to keep it as a reflection of your achievement.

To edit, revert to draft, or delete a story, simple click the ellipsis icon (•••) next to your story cards in your Stories dashboard or directly from your author profile.

Leave your feedback in the comments below and let us know what you think or what features you’d like to see next.

    Hi

Can only Vocal+ stories be Top Stories, or do Vocal stories also qualify?

Hi Justin, I would like to message you. How can I do that please?

If artificial intelligence is used to translate content from my language into English and publish it, does this represent a problem, as does the image generated by intelligence

As far as what features I’d like to see next: I’d love it if there was a way to filter OUT stories we don’t want to see. I specifically want to be able to filter out AI generated stories. Nothing against people who post those, but I’m only interested in reading stuff that was written by a human. Today I went looking for new horror fiction authors to discover, I sorted by nee and had to dig several pages in to find writing that wasn’t flagged as AI. I could see filtering out stories with content warnings or specific key words as a potentially useful user safety tool too. As it stands right now I feel it’s kind of hard to find the kind of stories I’m interested in reading. I appreciate the vocal curation team highlighting and boosting stories. That’s pretty cool. But looking for new stuff on our own feels kinda clumsy.

I'm really happy with this. I can now change some of my stories into something workable. This is great!

What about putting some effort in an alternative payment platform: PayPal which has higher reach than Stripe. With Stripe my local bank takes almost everything I would get from Vocal. It isn't fair that a millionaire's bank would get all the fruits of my creativity.

Justin- Ok, I am very upset. Someone made nice comments on two of my poems, so I thought, I will go over and check out that person’s page, maybe I would like their work. So I scroll down and choose a poem about America - it was a direct line for line paraphrase of Walt Whitman’s poem I Hear America Singing-the title was also paraphrased. And there were 5 comments under it saying “What a great poem.” Which of these bothers me more?!!!! By the way, I reported it. Is there a way to block this author from seeing my work? After seeing that, I am afraid he is stealing work from people.

Morning family. New kid on the block, I came with my mentality of a new broom sweeps clean unfortunately that is not the case. My article is on draft and the fundi that I am is lost in trying to submit for a review. Maybe I did something wrong I am not sure. Be so kind to help I can see the delete procedure but not submission on a drafted articled

Three cheers!!! Thank you for making good on this promise. Your care and respect for creators is evident.

I did the same for my 2 stories but I couldn’t locate the Publish Button again. Can someone help?

  • Can you tell us what the algorithm is for stories on our profiles? I haven't a clue. Also why do you refuse to put a read count in our stories. You have the figures but giveus multiple heart and comment counts, the stats still don't work properly and you have done nothing about that for three years. So please a story read count would be useful. Also when we finish full edit it leaves us in the edit so if we share the URL it obviously comes up with an error. Sorry to be a Gandalf Stormcrow, you know I point out faults but you are still a brilliant and the best way to share our work @Justin

Best update ever. This is such great news. The gears of new plans are already turning. This gives autonomy over a great deal of elbow room for personal improvement. Wiggle room. Yeah!!!!!!! Thank you all of the powers that be.😍
