When life throws a stumbling block .....

Hitting a stumbling block does not mean that you have stunted your growth process, what it means is that you have reached a chapter in your life that requires a lot more work to unlock, it also means that this chapter requires you to focus a little bit more. A stumbling block is similar to a speed hump. How many of you visited Tobago Plantations? while driving you cross about ten to twelve speed humps and it doesn’t matter what entrance you take to get there the humps are inevitable. Do you know why? yes! it might be for residential purposes to minimize speed or even for protection. But we don’t see that these humps give us time to appreciate the beauty within the plantation. they give us time to notice the golf course on both sides, it gives us the time to notice that big beautiful sugar mill on the left, it even gives us the time to notice the Lillies pod in the ponds and probably even notice the caiman sunning under the tree. But, most of all ,whether, we take it as torture or pleasure at the end of that road it leads us to the beauty of the hotel we have been anticipating, the pools we have been dying to float in the breeze that we imagine in our hair, the sun we have been dying to feel and that amazing view of the ocean.

Just like the humps in the plantation, our stumbling block is there to help us slow down and appreciate the things that are right in front of us ,the things we take for granted, the very things that are beautiful in our lives that we cannot see because we are to busy trying to figure everything out all at once. Learning to slow down the hard way can take a toll on you.

I hit a block, more like a mountain, and instead of appreciating the beauty of that mountain, I allowed it to stand in my way. I didn’t notice the waterfall on top, the lake to the left, the beach on the right, I didn’t notice the vines hanging down at me or even the bird and the butterflies. All I knew was that I hit and I hit hard. I allowed myself to become blinded by my challenges and forgot how I even got to the mount in the first place. I was really just in a rush to see the end and with that, instead of moving forward, I paused, no I came to a complete stop, I halted and I said to that mountain I can’t, you win,I lose because I am totally tired and climbing you is not an option.

Life has a way of throwing big things in front of you, most times it is just for you to appreciate what’s at your side, for you to appreciate the now, remember the now, record the now, capture the now, and once all that is done then pick your stuff up remember what you just learned and move on to the next chapter with gratitude and knowledge.

Take every day, one day at a time, rushing gets you nowhere, everything you do, do it to the best of your ability, and remember to appreciate the process. For when you are no longer humble and appreciative life will find a way to make you be.
